Dawsons Creek r1 season 1 is being released in 4:3.

I have the r2 "Best of Season 1 and 2" of DC, which is in anamorphic 16:9 and dosn't look too shabby.

Was DC season 1 filmed in 4:3 or 16:9?

I think ign has confirmed then - they have scans of the back of the boxset stating that it is in the 4:3 format:(

    1. The boxset is not officially out yet
    2. The covers could be wrong (it happens a lot!)
    3. There might be two releases, one in 4:3 P&S and one in 16:9

    Chill for now ;)

    From http://www.dvdfile.com

My r2 "Best of Season 1 and 2" of DC looks excellent in 16:9.

And I was really looking forward to this release:(

R2 and R4 are now confirmed as being 4:3 too.

I saw this in one review:

    http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=5981

Strangely, that review disagrees with the DVDFile review you posted and says we won't be disappointed with the transfer! But if you click on the link at the bottom of the review, it takes you to another review that says the transfer is less than perfect.

Found this too, regarding the 'Best Of' DVD:

    http://www.dvdfever.co.uk/reviews/dawson1.shtml

Which contradicts the first quote ... However...

    This makes me think:

    1. If it was shot in 16:9, it doesn't matter as it was only ever meant to be seen in 4:3 since that was the intended broadcast ratio (i.e. like Buffy).

    2. Given the open credits, maybe it was shot in 4:3 and has been cropped on the 'Best of' DVD to 16:9. Obviously, they couldn't crop the credits because they'd end up chopping off some of the text.

Not sure what to do now :(

I don't think we will get a 16:9 version of this even if it exists. I'm pretty sure it was filmed or at least edited in 4:3.

I ordered the R1 (3 disc vs 4 disc R2/4) from CDWOW (so impressed with this company, FOTR ordered Monday arrived this morning!) for about £16.50 which I'm pretty sure is way cheaper than I'll find the R2 anywhere for.

I'm not expecting the quality to be great so I thought I would save some money and get it early too.

The problem with the R1 box set is that they tried to cram all the episodes onto 3 discs. This results in a very poor transfer on one of the episodes.

R2 shouldn't have this problem as it is on 4 disks.

    See tvshowsondvd for more info

From memory, the first few seasons were 4:3 and the latter 16:9, which is a shame as the first seasons were better

My R1 copy arrived this morning. It only came into stock on Friday at CDWOW in Hong Kong, how they ship so fast at these prices I'll never know, all I can say is good job! Anyway...

I just had a quick look at the first episode. It looked ok but far from the quality of a typical DVD movie. I really feel that the problems are with the source rather than the transfer so I wouldn't expect the R2 to be much better.

It was the content rather than the presentation I bought this for (Katie Holmes  ) so I can't say it bothers me too much.
