should have, not should of.

Agree with your sentiments though.

Big loss for the Labour party, also UK politics in general regardless of party. For some time now I've thought the only 2 strong MPs that should lead their respective parties are David Miliband for Labour and William Hague for the Conservatives. Just my opinion before anyone decides to disagree :p.
Anyway this is sad news.

He would have offered a more credible opposition, that much I'm sure of. Ed Miliband and his sidekick Ed Balls-up are the Tories greatest assets in the run-up to 2015.

Err. Didn't Hague have his turn ? They are virtually all career politicians now on both sides. There are few exceptions but not many. As Dennis Healey said about Ed "he is doing all right, he doesn't upset many people".

^^ Yes in 2001 up against Blair with that huge majority from '97 he had no chance. Anyway just because someone been leader of a party once doesn't mean they shouldn't return under the right circumstances. It used to be normal for party leaders who lost the leadership to stay on (up until the 70's), which doesn't happen anymore.

That's no excuse :) he should have tried harder. Anyway UKIP will probably ring the changes now. Its good that we have someone to upset the status quo and bring about a change in the current system. Its been far too balanced towards socialism and general wetness, its time it got a proper shaking up.

Basically, he's a nice guy.

Not much good as a political leader.

:(

It never went away, just the overt parts disappeared. It probably needs an entirely new word for what currently exists. An expanded state, expanded welfare, greater centralisation, stronger workers rights. Higher tax, more wealth distribution. Public/private partnerships and the swell of crony capitalism that relies on the state for its contracts. Its not a socialist democracy because that demands greater decentralisation, but we have been taken towards the brink of full EU union which is more like Stalinist socialism. Its certainly a million miles away from libertarian or true liberal. I suppose that nothing can truly be labeled and its evolving anyway. What would you call it ?

all we are left with today are mere vestiges of a once great political dogma.Of course its not libertarianism but then who the heck wants that:confused:I am strongly in favour of strong worker rights but they, incidentally, have been severely harmed in the 80s

I'm happy to see a wealthy man give up on power so that he can help others by working for a charity.

Who would of thought a muppet..sorry I meant puppet would work for International Rescue.

Put some more meat on the bone about how workers rights are now less than they were in the 80s ?

But the great political dogma just resulted in the country being bailed out by the IMF and workers being forced to do things by a quasi management structure of fat, overpaid union bosses. It mostly damaged their lives and relationships. Even now ex miners won't talk to one another over what was almost a mini civil war. The entire country was suffering black outs and week after week of strikes from the transport system to the grave diggers. What part do you remember as 'great'. It was bloody awful.

Will he get to fly Thunderbird Two? Lucky sod.

Typical Guardianista to get a fat cat job in a charity rather than a proper job. I wonder what potential scandal promted him to jump ship.

Did he jump or was he pushed?

:D

Probably jumping ship before the inevitable ruination of this country when Labour get voted back in.

Or before those 106 million Bulgarians come, most likely!

^^ Even though Bulgaria has a population of 7 million :p

He probably lost all his faith in the Labour Party when they elected his idiot brother instead of him. And I can't say I blame him.

I thought he was Bananaman anyway, not a Thunderbird puppet.

I very much doubt we've heard the last of him.

I hope we have. Another MP doing a Blair and boosting his profile at the expense of his electorate. How can you be an MP and not spend any time in the Commons ? Oh yes Gordon Brown. Enuff said.

You must try harder - I'm sure you could have come up with a longer list of labour politicians you disapprove of, if only you applied yourself.
