You are too good a soul Jimbo.I would sell on for mega bucks while convincing myself that I took the risk and the prospective buyers gets the delight of seeing all my accurate photos and descriptions of it before handing me all my ill-gotten gains. Maybe I would allow myself an evil cackle as I rotate slowly round on my office chair in a darkened room.

Well I never had to cross that bridge... just got an email my order has been cancelled. Probably was on another site and got snapped up by someone else or they realised it’s a steal / wrong edition.

Oh well happy hunting everyone :D Steven has that bookshop got back to you yet about his unlisted hoard?

I need a Waylander, my copy is very poor!

I bought a last sword of power listed as a hardback for £18, which turned out to be paperback. The company was in america (despite free uk delivery) so I took partial refund. I should have looked at the feedback, they seem to have a habit of it sadly.

Oh Theydon I sold a Waylander copy a few months ago which was in very good condition. I sold it relatively cheap to a collector on the facebook group... if I’d have known :(

I’ll keep an eye out for the future

Oh man I had a mint copy I sold for a few hundred on Facebook. If I’d have known you would have had first refusal.

Just talked to the guy... he has mint signed copies of the first five hardcovers... which got me all excited... then he turns around and in no hurry to sell and would want over a thousand quid for each one. He’s holding off on listing until he feels the market is right. I hate knowing there are pristine hcs of the ones I need out there that are just gathering dust in a dealers box haha.

For what it’s worth a book listed as fair at world of books is going to be fudgeing dreadful condition when it arrives, so maybe you got lucky when they cancelled.

    Wa
Was it that Zubek (or something) company? They suddenly popped up stating all their listed books were hardback, when they are not. Avoid them like the plague.

Steven, thanks for getting back to us about the signed hardbacks. Yeah, he might be disappointed if he wants £1000 or more for them. I suspect the only time he might have got those amounts was soon after 2006. Interest has gradually waned and prices will only come down further in my opinion (though the Shannow films might change that if they are successful).
Seeing the desperately high prices for dog-eared old paperback WKBSs now, when you can just buy a nice new hardback, makes me rather glad I sold mine a while back.

Yeah that's my take too. 300-350 is top end I think.

Oh, when buying from the US avoid MurrayMedia like the plague. Listings are wrong.

Most of the big book companies who have the books at a different site to the location where they are listed tend to be wrong, don't they?Problem is, occasionally you will strike gold, so it is a gamble. I'm waiting to see if a 'HB' Wolf in Shadow from Music Magpie comes up with the goods. At £2.88 it was worth a punt and they have apparently posted it to me. Maybe I can sell for a £1000!!! Ha ha ha ha haaaaa!

Murray are awful though on customer service levels too.

I did get a pennies copy of Wolf that was in decent nick from World of Books - which I replaced with a mint copy and sold on to Jimbo for the same pennies. The thing about Wolf is the ISBN wasn't screwed up like LSop and GK... so it's probably the hc.

WorldofBooks sent me that mint signed HB Morningstar for under £20 last year that was listed as “fair”. I assume they just describe that as most books now since condition is very subjective and customers can claim refunds easily.

Remember if the book is listed as HB but arrives not as described you are entitled to a FULL refund, including them paying for the postage costs. This is true no matter if you live in London, Sweden or Timbuktu.

Please don’t settle to buy with a reduction / discount unless you actually want the book still - this only encourages them :)

Pretty sure ebay does not cover the postage cost to return the book - my book for instance was £18 with free postage. I settled for a 66% discount as it would have cost me £6 to send it back to the US.

Edit: Sorry, I mean it may refund postage costs, but in my case it was free, so nothing to refund and only an expense at my end.

Ah, that is why they say the postage is free and just include it into the book price. The sods.

eBay has a full return policy you just have to stick to your guns. I’ve bought over 10 “David Gemmell Ghost King (1988 Hardback)” etc from various online stores and platforms, including eBay, abebooks and Amazon. All 3 have either given a full refund and let me keep the book, or email me an attachment with the paid return postage.

In all these instances the only cost has been the printing of this pre-paid label.

It seems your email has to tick certain boxes to get the full refund, namely making sure they are the ones to blame:

    - incorrectly described as hardback
    - worthless paperback arrived
    - will return at sellers expense with full refund including return postage

I am currently doing the same thing with a legend graphic novel described as hardback. In my eyes there is no risk because I know I am entitled to a full refund and abebooks will give it me, despite the seller being from USA and shipping to UK.

That one often seems to be incorrectly labelled hardback unfortunately.

Yeah it is often mis-described as hardback because its an oversized paperback. However it was considerably more expensive than the others so will have to wait and see. Also I managed to source a HB Ghost King from Australia. They are sending me an invoice for 36 AUS shortly. Its ex lib but at this stage I dont care (I saw photos so I know its legit!!!)

That sounds more promising Jimbo. I've noticed it is this time of year (and the next month or two) that we start seeing the most interesting Gemmell listing come up usually.

My King Beyond the Gate came from Aus, it is a lovely copy, I think I paid £165 for it. More than 10,000 miles!

This is the Ghost King I have ordered. It seems this shop does not list on the main websites. I only found it by google image searching "david gemmell hardback ghost king" and then went to their website. Cost me around £24 in total.

I trawled their inventory and no other rare Gemmell's im afraid. However, they do have some nice other fantasy/horror early editions if anyone is interested. Postage outside of AUS is 30 AUD.

An absolute bargain even if it is a bit tired looking. Perhaps a shiny new dust cover protector will smarten it up a bit. Great find Jimbo.

So that Ghost King HB arrived! It finally completes my collection, with the exception of the few peripherals like most ARCs, WKBS 1st ed, hardback Legend graphic novel, White Wolf Audio CD and HB Drenai Tales 1 -3.

My collection includes HB copies of all his works (except WKBS) and 1st edition paperbacks. Other things included are a Didier art book with some DG art, leather Legende edition collector (French anniversary edition with CD), the sample Winter Warriors, sample Lion of Macedon, ZX spectrum game with duplicate instructions, most/all of the magazines with DG articles in we know of, the complete range of audiobooks released on CD (except White Wolf on cassette).

I also included some pics of my Tolkien, Jacques and Canavan shelves too. If you haven't read the Trudi Canavan "Black Magician" trilogy I highly recommend it.

Are some of the Hard backs book club ones? Some look small? Just for reference, there is another two (that I know of) US editions in the same collection as Against the Horde - but they have the same named as UK versions.

    Very nice though mate!
