Stunning , well don guys. I think the RS20i is going to be a real game changer. Respect to the guys at Datasat for bringing out a product with the future in mind rather than selling a high end product with just current features . Once in the rack I think it will be there for a long time. :)

    Looks very nice .

You think you are high end owning an Anthem D2V but when you see kit like this you realise you are still in Amstrad territory.

The only thing that would wind me up is not having the setup kit to hand. If you made tweaks or changes to the room it would mean a dealer revisit to get it redone.

When I had the Lexicon MC12 and I wanted to measure the room after a change I just had to pop along to CSEsolutions (not too far from me) to borrow the microphones for a day. On my D2V I just get the ARC kit out of the cupboard and hook up the laptop.

All the changes and tweaking I do was the reason I went for the D2V rather than the Ada kit.

Thanks to Phil and Steve for a very interesting video and article.

I assume you may be able to get the set up kit seperately (I believe it is in the vicinity of US$2500) as an individual or you can, like I am doing at the moment, get each piece seperately at a overall price somewhat less than that figure. This is an additional price over the initial cost of the RS20i if you go down this path (noting that the cost of ARC etc is factored into the unit price of other processsors) but I agree the ability to tweak at any time is the real benefit. I also do not have any dealers established in Australia so I only have this option at the moment.

In reality a unit like the RS20i is targetted at those consumers with a dedicated home theatre and it is likely that changes to their rooms are going to be few and not that often - in such circumstances having a willing dealer (with their expertise) to come and recalibrate seems the most suitable arrangement.

What does the setup kit consist of besides a microphone?

A unit like this is wasted on Millionaires that just pay for a cinema room and does not appreciate what they have.
Is there a scholarship scheme where real enthusiasts can buy these cheaper and can have a lot of fun playing. We wont tell anyone honest

I am not too sure that the mere man can actually buy the mic setup kit. At the end of the day, for the price, I would hope it has more than a simple ECM 8000, and I am sure it is.

But you also have to factor into the price that it is intended as a money making tool for the installer and as such there will be an exaggerated price for the installer kit.

Just like the audyssey installer kit, there is no way that is worth £700 but to an installer it is as they can make their money back in a month or so, if they are busy that is.

This is just conjecture. Who knows, the Dirac setup mic kit may be being sold at a loss and be of SMAART quality.

I remember when I was at Genesis that Neil mentioned to me that Datasat were very strict on who was allowed to set these processors up.

It would be interesting if a set up kit was available to purchase for buyers of this unit. I don't think it would be encouraged by Datasat tbh.

Working on the basis of what the kit contains for the AP20 the following is provided:

    - Dirac Live software and hardware security key
    - Proxy software
    - mic (appears to be an Earthworks m23 or m30)
    - Sound devices usbpre mic preamp
    - wireless router, power adapter and rj45 cable
    - carry case

As Apone indicated I wouldn't expect this kit to be readily available to the normal consumer.

I have just installed my Datasat RS20i. This is only a temporary instal in which I am using a Gallo SA amplifier for some 2 channel listening while I wait for my new 7 channel amp. The Datasat is replacing a Lexicon MC12 with Audyssey SEQ.

    What do I think.........?

    WOW

A very significant improvement - so much better clarity and detail, so much more revealed while remaining warm and beguiling!

I have yet to run Dirac and now I am so impatient to try a movie in multi channel glory.

Sounds amazing, I can not wait to get a taste of this beast.

I have just been rewatching band of brothers. I could not think of anything better than that to test of the multichannel action that the rs20i can offer.

Realistic sounds rather than Hollywood bloat.

Well I have just been spending the day moving my ht about and fitting in my second sub etc etc.

Figured the first thing I should try once I had level adjusted, delays and calibrated the audyssey sub eq was to play the Datasat trailer in DTS MA HD 5.1 from blu ray and blimey it has some bass. Be prepared guys. It very nearly blew my socks off.

Not much gets my mrs from upstairs when she is watching her tv, but she came down and said that was too much. It wasn't too much off course. Some of the best multichannel work I have heard. And certainly in the bass department. Now to hear it thru the processor for which it was intended. One day.....

    Thanks Datasat!

Auro 3D sound now on Blu ray 5.1 with 4 hight. Good to know we have something to play when the upgrade comes for the RS20i , It's a folk style band from Norway I do believe released by 2L but
I will look into it when I get more time. At least it shows that Auro 3D is on its way and can be carried with out problem on Blu ray.

Yes it looks good, I found the disc but haven't had time to dig deeper. Auro only on 2 tracks though according to the cover but it's a start.

Can anyone ask if there is going to be a scaled down version of the RS20i? Say in the region of 4 - 5K? If so what are the time scales?

    Thanks

It should be a great day I am looking forward to it. I have been once but there is so much to take in it will be nice to take another look. Then back to Genesis UK for a demo or 2 , I can't think of a better way to spend a day ( not in the UK without a beer or 2 anyway) :)

Great news and thank you for organising the day.

Unfortunately, it falls between two holiday breaks leaving me with no wiggle room at work. :(
However, I will be looking forward to any feedback from the day.

Btw - will there be any special offers on the day for attendees?
