Here is some info on the new cheaper processor from Datasat

The Datasat LS10 is the first home cinema processor to deliver high end audio features at a price point for a wide range of home cinemas and media rooms. The Datasat LS10 with Auro-3D® makes full immersive sound in 3D available to those installations for the first time.
Bringing immersive sound to the home
Auro 3D® adds height and top layers to standard digital surround sound. This provides a much more natural listening experience in which the texture and directional nature of the sound can be fully appreciated. The Datasat LS10 with Auro-3D® allows playback of native Auro-3D content as well as upmixing 2.0, 5.1 or 7.1 soundtracks into the Auro-3D format. It is ideal for home cinema installations where price and performance are important considerations.
    Stylish and powerful
Featuring precise control of each of its 15 channels – with 10 bands of parametric equalisation per channel - and superior bass management, the Datasat LS10 ensures high quality sound that is rich, textured and realistic. In addition to Auro-3D®, this processor provides native support for the latest sound formats including Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS Neo:X. Its range of remote control options – including VNC control through iOS and Android devices – places this audio power at the user's fingertips.

"cheeper"? really? You don't mean "cheaper"? I would have thought that "less expensive" is more the correct description. The words 'cheap' and 'Datasat' should never exist in the same sentance!

Like how does it compare, to an ordinary AV Receiver.

    Thanks in advance

I thought you might want to be more specific than that as there is probably a lot of difference especially as it depends on what you regard as an ordinary av receiver. Essentially it is as far as I am aware the best or one of the best processors money can buy in terms of both features and sound quality. If you want to know about features look at a featur and list

No, it's like Aston Martin make expensive cars and less expensive cars.

On the other hand Vauxhall and Citroen make expensive cars and cheaper cars!

But a V8 Vantage is still cheaper than a DBS, not cheap but cheaper

I think you are missing the subtle difference between less expensive and cheap / cheaper...

Something which is less expensive costs less money but is still built with the same attention to detail.
Something which is cheap(er) costs less money, but the money saved is because it is less well built, or misses important functionality.

Sorry I see what you mean. I was under the impression that cheaper was purely meant in terms of comparison of price and not other factors such as build quality etc

Its subtle but yes, often cheaper / less expensive is used as an assessment of quality as well as purely price. Often "it's cheap" would be a put down comment.

Yeah I would use cheap in that respect but I just thought it was derived from lower price and therefore cheaper meant less expensive. I have looked at a definition online and I agree you are right

Datasat are (iirc) the new name for the company behind DTS sound.

The Datasat RS20i was built on similar platform to the commercial units used in your local multi-plex (the ones with good sound not the mediocre ones :) ). The new LS10 is designed to bring similar technology to a slightly lower price point. While I have not seen all the details, it would appear to do this by replacing the modular construction of the RS20i with a fixed configuration which will suit most users. How they compare in quality is not yet know.

I would suspect (but don't know) this will be one of the best processors available in a pure home cinema environment (when coupled with suitable partnering equipment).

Correct, it's not as flexible as the RS20, the LS10 has fixed input and output channel mapping and manual EO but it has the same DSP engine and DAC's so I'm sure it will sound awesome. Roughly 1 more week and we should know for sure.

It is a real pity it does not have Dirac or even a dumbed down version.

Thank you for the description of what Datasat is, i never knew that DTS was created by them, i hope to see these systems on the market i wonder how much they will cost since you said that they pure audio. I bet they are going to sound way better than the medicore systems.

    Thanks again Eloise

Thx Andy - hopefully an update will be provided soon. I notice that Storm Audio are now listing the Auriga on their website.

The Auriga was launched a few weeks ago. I think it was mentioned over on AVS forum that the LS10 was now due for release in June.

That's unfortunate news for anyone investing in that processor and hoping for Auro on launch. Let's hope Datasat get things in order and deliver Auro as per their earlier press releases, sooner rather than later:thumbsup:

Yes, not sure why it's taking so long there must be an issue of some sort.

Does the opening post need amending to say "the Dataset LS10 should have auro processing...sometime soon...."

It has been indicated over on avsforums that Datasat has found a bug with Auro on their platform that they are working on. I would consider the source of that information as reliable.

Cheers Asif - I'm subscribed to that thread as well - I never seem to get all the 'new post' emails from AVS!
