I have a 300D which has been fine, but recently it has started to show a dark smudge in the centre of the image. I have changed the lense and it is still there, so it is not a problem there...any ideas what it is or how to fix it?

Sounds like the sensor needs cleaning. take a shot of the sky out of focus and on f22.
That should show you any dust on the sensor.
If that is the problem you need to do some research and decide if you feel confident to do it your self or prefer to send it for service.
I posted a thread here about my dirt on sensor and cleaning results. I spent a few days reading loads of opinions before getting the right stuff to do the job. DIY is quite easy but in the end it can only be your decision.
