    Getting LGS withdrawal symptoms?

It is actually quite an interesting article. I suppose we like to believe the grass is greener in these countries, and because we see little news and most of us have little idea about them, it is easy to dream.

Read the article and was mildly interested in the content. The author was struggling to find stuff against the Nordic culture, in fact I get the impression he was quietly in favour and enjoys their lifestyle whilst ranting against them in print.

    Sound familiar? :)

    Which countries are best ?
What aspects of culture, society, economics, laws etc are better or worse than we have, and which should we aspire too ?

No country is perfect, far from it in most cases, so it's a case of what weights and measures we apply to the various aspects of human lives and interactions on which we decide to take action or ignore.

Look in the mirror and say his name five times and he will appear.

Who's this we ? Its quite clear that 'we' deciding doesn't work. Democracy is finished. Its socialistic anyway and is a model to produce fascism and totalitarianism eventually. Time to let go of the idea of rulers supported by the media and money men, backed by a mob looking to live off the proceeds of other people's productivity.

Every country has tried it in the West. Just like the old feudal society its had its day. Its corrupt and ultimately leads to social disintegration, stagnation and inequality. Communism has been tried with even more disasterous results.

Central control doesn't work except in the short term. Jefferson was right. The tree of liberty needs watering from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. Unfortunately Jefferson never considered that the tyrants would become so strong and the patriots so bloody needy and frightened.

This rather sketchy article does say that even the small, rich nations don't work under democracy. The US empire is or has become a Police state, the UK isn't far behind and the rest of Europe looks knackered. Its only a matter when and not if the whole mess implodes.

Sid, that's a very interesting read - thanks for posting it.

Entertaining, too. So I'm sorry to say the boring bit.

We shouldn't read that and say "Let's not become like them after all", we should read it and say "Let's steal the best bits and leave the worst bits".

Not boring at all - very sensible.

But often the bits that we don't like are intrinsically linked with those that we do...

    Of course.

It's sometimes possible to detach them, but not always.

Welcome back btw Pecker, good to see you around again :D

Grass is always greener, or snow is always whiter in this instance maybe, but just imagine how amazing it would be if they were all in the EU!
