    ....

CNN Guest Blames Video Games For Dark Knight Rises Colorado Shooting | EGMNOW

    :thumbsdow:mad:

When the hell will they bloody learn that game's and movie's do not kill people, people kill people so stop damn well blaming games and movies.

    Rant over - ish.

I'm sorry, but this stuff coming out really does **** me off. All they want to do is find somthing for the blame game.

I feel for the family's of those that have lost a loved one, and it is a pretty sore subject, but to blame killing people due to gaming or movie watching is just pathetic.
It's the person that is the problem, not the entertainment industry. They don't force people to go out killing, it's a choice a person make's themselves.

    Ok now rant over.

Whats worse is that the trial will apparently take a year to run its course. Unsure why, surely he is guilty?

American justice system is all about making money for those that work in it... rather than you know... dealing out justice.

    They need Batman.

People always look for a scapegoat. Something to blame, rather than taking a step back and looking at their own bad parenting/societal issues.

All i can say is "meh"

And i say that because im so used to seeing games being blamed/scapegoated yet again.

absolute bobbins. Media hysteria & trying to blame games again.

what with a couple of days ago reading about some father demanding an apology from microsoft which had allowed his 12 year child to "accidentally" take over £1000 from his creditcard whilst playing call of duty unsupervised I am getting sick of people trying to pass the book and trying to blame everyone other than themselves for the fact that society is going to ****.

IF the person who went on a killing spree was mentally scarred as a child due to videogames (I do not believe this) then it is his parents who are at fault.

IF he was mentally scared as an adult due to playing videogames (I do not believe this either) then he was a ticking timebomb anyway and if it had not been videogames it would have been a movie, or a book or some person on the street who looked at him the wrong way.

for chri$ts sake I was bought up on Tom and Jerry, Laurel and Hardy and the 3 stooges and yet I have never hit anyone in the face with a sauce pan.

    --
the bit I actually do not expect most to agree with, but each to their own and I respect & sympathise with peoples opinion to disagree

I personally just believe he was a psychopath and should be taken out of the gene pool as he can never be a safe, productive member of society after this. Am sorry I know this is not a PC attitude and it is not because I WANT to have capital punishment per se, it is just that the risks of people like that, not to mention the costs to the tax payer mean for me it is simply a matter of logistics.
    ----------

edit just listened to the report, at least videogames are not directly blamed this time

Calm down dear it's only a video game. :)

These artciles crop up every year and are a waste of space.

What I find more of a concern is when game rating systems are completely ignored by parents who are willing to stand in queue to buy 7 year old 'Billy' the next Call of Duty.

The rise in video game babby sitting needs to stop!

The irony being that it can't have been the Batman video games that inspired it, as Batman doesn't "kill"!

I hope you are right, but I fear sooner or later we will end up like Germany or Australia with games cut, or worse still, so many countries get censored that gamedevs simply start cutting down on the violence to keep the game market laeger.

    totally agree!.

Youve got to love America , the most hypocritical nation on Earth.

A country where someone can actually think its an intelligent point of view to blame violent video games for a mass murder , and say nothing about the fact that you can walk into any sports shop over there with a state drivers license and arm yourself to the teeth with automatic weapons and thousands of bullets.

Don't weapons appear on the streets as floating spinning discs that you walk over to pick up? :rotfl:

I heard that Batman outfits have been banned from being sold in the US but guns laws are staying the same. Crazy people.

Will never change mate. Too much money involved.

Seems the logical step though. They'll never learn.

I don't think the banning of batman costumes is true but you know it wouldn't be a shock if they did in the end.

I just can't understand why any country would legally allow guns?

Maybe people misunderstood when the decleration said people have the the "right to keep and bear arms"

Maybe what was mean that everyone has the right to own a pair of bear arms?

If we can avoid a debate on guns I would be ever-so-grateful... else it will need to go to general chat :)

While it stays on videogames ... then cool, it can stay here!

    Thanking thee.

I believe the ban is on wearing a costume to a cinema not a blanket ban on costumes per se. They are discussing it.

Columbine is to blame for mass killings like this more than any game, coupled with the ease of access to an arsenal of guns, ammo and sundries :)

This sort of thing happens a lot. Show me the peer reviewed research that backs up that opinion and I might start to take it seriously.

I bet every nutter that went on a killing spree drank milk at some point in their life, so I'll blame that. Ban milk! It's the work of the Devil! Yes, many people drink it and have no problems, but many people play video games and have no problems too, so it's definitely milk that's causing it! I have no evidence, but it is!

Yawn! So if the lunatic had shot up a game store at midnight in release of black ops 2 would it have been the influence of movies!?! Such cheap journalism. Have to agree with what someone else posted. Columbine and similar atrocities have sowed a seed. We need to do more to spot these people that are so mentally unstable that they would do such a thing. We all live in communities (given some are looser then others), someone somewhere must have had an inkling that this individual might have been capable of this. There are far more psychos going on shooting rampages then terrorist attacks in recent years. These people are the real enemies of society.

Disturbed's song Innocence is very apt here.

As has been said, it's just another excuse for the media to take cheap pops at the games industry

To be fair though, the person who was quoted, did not blame videogames they actually said that videogames enable psychopaths to experience their fantasies. The words have merely been twisted by both sides of the media to bring out a sensationalist headline that panders to both sides of the argument.

I would say that violent videogames do have the ability to stimulate those who have violent tendencies. It is not a single causal factor, however, it does play a part. Violent games, violent films, violence in real-life, alcohol, drugs and an underlying psychological problem all play a role. It is not just bobbins, here is a good summary of the myths and evidence:

Violent Video Games: Myths, Facts, and Unanswered Questions

It has been shown that people playing violent games, will display more aggressive behavior after finishing play. Of course this is not long term, but directly after playing your behavior is more aggressive due to the stimulation in your brain.

It is not the case that everyone has to play Animal Crossing or Harvest Moon only and we will all be safe. However, it is understandable that playing a game where you are shooting hundreds of people in all gory detail, might make someone with psychopathic tendencies more likely to go out and do it afterwards. They would in all likelihood still go and do it at some point, but it is a factor in the equation.

It might also make them LESS likely to do it... since they'd be getting to experience it without having to actually do it.

    It's a ridiculous argument.

It's the whole 80s video nasty debacle for the modern age.

Has watching Zombie Flesh Eaters actually made people go out and rip people to pieces, or bite sharks in the water? Nope!
