Please explain to me the difference and why they say dark Chip 3 is better than Matterhorn Chip? Is Matterhorn now a faded DLP technology?

    Hi Murrey,

The Matterhorn chip is a 1024 x 576 resolution chip, and DC3 is a process that is currently only applied to HD2+ DMDs as far as I know (original HD1 was called the Mustang). DC2 is the earlier process that was used. The DC3 allows a dark area behind the mirrors IIRC so that reflects less unwanted light (better black) and the mirrors have smaller hinges and no dimple so that equates to more reflected light. Overall that gives more brightness and better contrast, as can be found when comparing the H78 to the H79.

Mustang is the name given to the original 1280 x 720 chip and that has been through HD1, HD2 and now HD2+ evolution.

    HTH

    Gary.
