I recently got Phenomena out again ( its the region 1 uncut but missing 2 scenes version which runs 116 minutes approx ) its always bothered me that the film is presented in a 1.66:1 ratio, theres 2 reasons why this bothers me, reason number 1 is because the film titles clearly say the film was shot in Panavision ( if it was shot flat it would say panaflex lenses ) the second reason is that Argento usually shoots 2.35:1 and likes the scope format, sooooo my question is does anyone know for absolute sure the true film aspect ratio of Phenomena ( tried IMDB it didnt help much )

I've had the R1 and R2 of this and neither have been 2.35:1. Composition looks OK so this is probably the correct ratio. Argento has shot other movies without 2.35:1 - Inferno and Tenebrae spring to mind.

True the composition does seem right its just the end titles saying it was shot in Panavision which confuses me.

Panavision doesn't have to be anamorphic. Loads of more recent Argento films have been 1.85:1/1.66:1 (The Card Player, Sleepless, Stendhal etc).

Well all I've got is an old rental VHS in 4:3 (of course)

So any other ratio would be an improvement on DISC :)

Whilst its true Panavision doesnt have to be anamorphic when it specifically says shot in Panavision then you expect scope format.
