Went to see this last night at one of the special previews and all I can say is Marvel have turned out another great comic book film, how DC comics must be wondering what went wrong with the Superman and Batman franchises. I was a bit apprehensive as I do not rate Ben Affleck as an actor but he nails Matt Murdock to a tee, this is probably his best acting performance to date, but it could not get much worst after Pearl Harbour.

The film is pretty short, only 100 minutes long but it jumps straight into the action and does not let up for the whole film. The film is fairly dark in nature and is not the light hearted affair Spider-Man was last year but more like Batman. Colin Farrell as Bullseye probably steels the show as he is just completely insane but has some great one liners. Michael Clarke Duncan is good as the Kingpin and Jennifer Garner is damn hot as Elektra.

The special effects are also pretty convincing but most of them are in the dark which hides all the problems with CGI. Daredevils radar sense is pretty cool and does enhance the story instead of just being a gimmick. The film does get a bit hammy in places but does laugh at it self so these scenes work, especially the one where Matt first meets Elektra.

All in all another good Marvel film and let’s hope this trend continues with X2 and The Hulk later on in the year. :)

I will probably be in the minority but I didn't think it
was that good. As Ian said Farrell was great as
Bulleye and even Favreau was funny at times. I
just felt the film was too short and none of the
    characters were fleshed out enough.

Affleck was mediocre as action heros go and Garner
was woefully underused in Elektra guise. Shes still
    hot though!

I still prefer the Crow when it comes to dark/gothic/
    revenge films.

Is this the same film that is advertised by a massive billboard on the A40 with a lifesize 'daredevil' sitting atop the poster?

If so, always wondered what it was advertising but couldn't take my eyes off the road for long enough to read it!

Mildly off-topic, but I understand that the trailer for "X-Men 2" is attached to all prints of "Daredevil". This being the case, is it any good?

I'm going to see "Daredevil" tonight and can't wait to see it - I do rate Affleck as an actor and don't hold him personally responsible for "Pearl Harbour" being a tad on the crap side (Michael Bay's the dude who has to bear that particularly embarassing cross, in my opinion).

Summer-type blockbusters opening in February - has the world gone topsy-turvy? Oh that's right, it has...

When I went to see it last night there was no adverts and no trailers the film just started. I don't know if this was because it was a preview or because the feature started 10 minutes late, so I can not comment on the X2 trailer. If you see it tonight let me know what you think because I am really looking forward to seeing X2 :D

I did go to see "Daredevil" on Friday night and really enjoyed it - it's much closer to a movie like "The Crow" than, say, "Spider-Man", with a far grittier tone and a very evident crime flick sensibility about it.

    Slight Spoiler Stuff Begins

Affleck's great in the title role, but I could have done without his voiceover. Jennifer Garner's fine, too - I particularly enjoyed her introductory scene, with the athletic, gymnastic flirtation in the playground between Murdock and Elektra.

Colin Farrell, who pretty much justifies his hype as Bullseye - He's hilarious and more or less steals the movie out from under the future Mr. Lopez's feet.

    Slight spoiler stuff ends.

Thank you to Apocalypse for the trailer links - the "X2" trailer did play beforehand and was pretty special. I'm expecting the good work that Bryan Singer and co. presented with the first movie, only on a much bigger, louder scale. And we had "The Matrix Reloaded" teaser beforehand, too - I can't wait for May...

    Hi,

Enjoyed it, it was made well. Quite dark. Yes felt like the crow film in places. But the problem with these comic character films is that they tend to feel the same?, you could of put spiderman in the daredevil role, and it would almost be very simliar to spiderman film, with all this jumping around on buildings, etc.

I suppose the first films will always be similar, where they introduce the guy who becames the hero with his powers and falls in love, but cant, or she gets killed. Then theres the bad guys setup. But then the sequels can push away from this forumla and hopefully be different to other comic/movie tie-ins.

The Sunday Times review of Daredevil was less than complementary (with a no-star, or 'give it a miss' rating). A great line from the review was reference to Affleck's dull performance, not least due to the fact that he looked as though he'd put a condom on his head for a laugh.

I almost got swayed after reading a few complimentary reviews, but after checking the Holy Grail and seeing that it got 49%, I think I'll definitely give it a miss.

Personally, I rather enjoyed it, yeah, ok there were some cheesy bits.

The jumping over buildings was a bit far fetched for me, but I rate it much higher than Spiderman as it is slightly more believable.

Certainly much darker. Farrell and Miss Garner were very much underused and both of them outshine Mr Affleck for their performances.

Oh yeah, and the music is fantastic! Went and bought the album Saturday morning, haven't stopped listening to it yet!

Saw this yesterday. Thought it was good as far as comic book adaptations go, better than Spiderman. I was pleasantly surprised at how dark and violent it was :).

I enjoyed it, although it was definitely a little cheesy and a little unnoriginal.
I got the feeling that there is a better film in there, but that it has been heavily cut - it seemed too rushed.

    Saw this tonight

I thought it would be pants but I quite enjoyed it

Bullseye was excellent the King Pin role could have been expanded a little

However, one thing I found very disturbing

Jon Favreau appears to be turning into Norm Petterson from Cheers

one question though about the film

    and it is a spoiler

(I've done it below, not sure what colour makes text here invisible until you highlight it)

Did she die, If yes who gave him the pendant?

    ***SPOILER***

I presumed that she left it there before she was killed, but it is a little ambiguous.

    ***Spoiler***

She is alive as Elektra (Jennifer Garner) is signed up for the second Daredevil film so she left the pendent so Matt knows she is still alive hence why he smiled. But yes it was a bit ambiguous.
