Looking at getting a device for my mother to hook to her new TV.

Is the youview whats she needs?

If I buy the YouView with no external subscriptions, will she
    1) be able to watch all freeview channels
    2) record all freeview, inc series links etc
    3) If I hook up her BT infinity then the catchup bursts into life enabling her to go back 7 days in the epg?
    4) no ongoing costs

    Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes.

Does your mother have any broadband at all? High speed broadband is not essential, catch-up TV will probably work ok with normal speed broadband, it does for me!

Without any broadband at all, I don't think that the Programme guide will work properly and the box may not initialise correctly. I may be wrong though.

Thanks Graham, I worded it badly. she already has BT Infinity. So I'll either run an ethernet cable directly from the homehub to the youview box or use a pair of spare 200mbps homeplugs.

This is what I am currently using. Will run a cable when I get the time!

The box will initialise OK, but the programme guide won't, as it uses a combination of both aerial and BB signals for its info.
