once the amp and speakers etc are all up and running, you DON'T use the speakers on the TV?

Just a thought that crossed my mind, if they were on you'd get more "volume" but surely it would disjoint the proper speaker setup?

I use the speakers on my tv when I'm watching the news. Of the sound is coming through the av amp though the tv is muted
