DAC connection question.

I've been considering getting a Musical Fidelity M3si which has an inbuilt DAC.
However the DAC connection is apparently USB type B.

A lot of source equipment seems to have coax or optical for digital output. Does that mean they could not be used as a source for the MD DAC?

No, you would need an external DAC. The current State of the Art, Musical Fidelity DAC is the MX-DAC -

Musical Fidelity MX DAC - Trade in Deal

Musical Fidelity MX-DAC - High Quality DAC Home Audio Visual

Though you can get the Musical Fidelity V90-DAC for considerably less -

Musical Fidelity V90 DAC | V90-DAC | Hifi Gear

Other alternatives -

CAMBRIDGE AUDIO DACMAGIC 100Black DAC

CAMBRIDGE AUDIO DACMAGIC PLUSBlack DAC

TEAC UDH01Silver DAC/Headphone Amplifier

Prices go up from there depending on how far you want to take it and the specific features you need.
