We been burgled tonight, one of the items taken is my beloved Nikon D7000 and my 24-70 f2.8 lens.

I appreciate it when you can let me know if you see this combination up for sale. They have no boxes but also my blackrapid strap still attached.

Cheers

Sorry to hear that. I don't know whether this will be of any help but if the scumbags who burgled you pass the camera on, there is some software (the name of which I can't remember, but someone else on here surely will) that may help you track it down by identifying EXIF data from any pics that get posted online.
Not much use now but might help recover your gear in the medium term.

That sounds interesting! I'm not too fussed about getting the equipment back, it's the scumbags being brought to justice that I'm most interested in. For the rest there is insurance.

This is the site I read about. Your model of camera is compatible but I've never had to use the site before so I don't know how well it works in practice (it's possible you might get no results or false positives that in fact refer to a different model of camera by the same manufacturer, hence the same serial number).

At least there's a small chance that you might get some satisfaction from it if/when someone takes shots with your camera and posts them on FaceTube.

Good luck.

Sorry to hear that mate, happened to us some years back it's not the stuff they take but the intrusion and disruption, hopefully the insurance payout will mean you can replace your gear with something even better (silver lining and all)

Hopefully, but what is better than a Nikon 24-70 f2.8 :D

Then again, the insurance struggle may already be starting....Initial conversations they were immediately putting up limitation where in the past 11 years we've had certain named items they now all of sudden (over the phone) class them as part of the maximum value per claim...I never read such limits in my policy....Ah well ultimately it is just stuff, but we'll see...

I've found the original policy I signed 11 years ago :)

It is very clear and is aligned with my understanding. So here is hoping.

Nightmare, hope they catch them and the insurance does what you pay them for.
Today I've found all receipts for everything phew. And photos of all goods being worn and used.

We've also had a second witness come forward with details aligned with the other one. Hope this helps our law enforcement teams.

...not to be pessimistic - more Devils Advocate DJ - but has your Policy details never been amended by the Insurer during the past 11 years - I know that my Insurers periodically adjust the cover/conditions (in their favour) every couple of years :(

Yep mind been amended quite a few times, but speaking with them today they said its mostly to do with high value items, when they say some people after being broken into, will say put in a claim for say a bit of artwork, high value watchers or jewellery that they say was left to them so little chance of them having receipts.
So now most company will ask you to name them and have photos.

:)

Undoubtedly there will be a struggle and a tug of war. It is a very serious amount we are talking about, if I was them I wouldn't just pay it out without investigation or trying it on. But we will see how it goes.

Cheers, yes it is weird. Especially as how everything went very fast but they left mine and my wife passports alone. They were in a pile of four. I've been able to speak to certain people about it, children's passports are very valuable for trafficking. It is very common apparently. The document numbers should now be on the appropriate lists when checked including advanced travel. The numbers are related to the documebt and not the person so that is good as well. Hopefully there shouldn't be a lasting effect from it. To our daughters we just bring it as that it is passport renewal time ;) they dobt need to know.

The good thing is, the body and lens are lucrative items which will eventually have some photos uploaded to Flickr etc, you're not going to get the average joe buying a D7000, I would imagine if they are sold on ebay or Gumtree the description will be vague as the cretins wouldn't know half of what the camera's do! Keep checking the serial number website in the coming months to catch who ever bought it as I can't see the thieves keeping it etc!
