Is D-VHS better than DVD picture quality wise?
If so why are they so rare?
Potentially yes the quality is better than DVD.
The reason they are so rare is that you still have all the inherent problems with VHS (Big bulky tapes, Having to fast forward and rewind and a mechanical mechanism that isn`t as reliable).
Most of the people that have seen HiDef material on D-VHS have been blown away.... Correction...ALL of the people.
The picture is truely stunning and indeed does make dvd look like vhs when you go back to dvd from hi-def. Shame :-(
You can get the player for £300 to £400 and they are backwards compatible but the d-vhs title are limited to about 50 to 60 films. But more are added frequently.
Fast and Furious, Moulon Rouge, and a few new titles too.
try list link for a full listing.
about half way down on right hand side
Only snag is a hi-def dvd player (prob blu-ray) may be out next year and it will become an expensive obsolete toy!
d-vhs tapes are $30 - $40 and delivery is a Wacking great $75.
That stinks! Bloody Yanks!!
thanks alot for the info. guys
