D-SLR Sony Alpha 330&18-50mm lens kit or??

hi guys,

im looking at gettin a d-slr in teh next week or so.

just had my baby girl, and i am not paying ridiculous money for photoshoots etc,

id rather have a go myself.

ive got £400 to play with, and ideally iw ant something with a guarantee. i.e new,

i also want it to have an LCD screen about 2.5-3" and with live view.

i dont really want to buy of fleabay. too many bad experiences as of late.

i dont really understand all the jargon that goes with these dslr's.

but i want something half decent, and entry or similar level.

any help would be most appreciated.

i ahve been looking at the Alpha A330 with the 18-50mm kit. its £329 new from jessops.

any help or experienced users with these?




if you dont have any advice for me, but know prices etc, please do the poll above to help me.

Seems a reasonable price and should suit you fine.

however when i did so, and then searched jessops in merchant, and moved onto the site and went to checkout, nothing was there to illustrate any further savings....

Well from the jessops discount codes section on topcashback there's always Jessops5 for 5% off.... (this definitley worked on Friday) but i'd search in google for "jessops discount code" and check out a few of the links in case there's a better one lurking around....

after searching all afternoon i still cannot find any voucher code that will knock money off my selection of the A330 with lens kit, at jessops.co.uk

i know of jessops5 , using this i will save £3 on memory card and bag lol

summer20 (save £20 when spend between £300-£400 excluding dslr's!)

if anyone could help and save me a few quid i would be seriously grateful!

TopCashback do the rebate based on the overall price. It isn't shown in the Jessops checkout, only a Jessops discount code will. TCB takes about 6+ weeks, but it's well worth it and you can have it paid to you via BACS or PayPal. There's shed loads of retailers to choose from, even eBay.

theres nothing i dont like about it...

i prefer it over the Nikon equivalent(forgotten model now).

but that is due to the "how it feels" factor, and the tilt on live view

And tbh ive only really looked into these two.

I know someone who has the Nikon D3000, who has been getting some great results. I would say it is worth having a look at this camera. Personally I would recommend Canon as I have a Canon DSLR which is fantastic but out of your price range. As a Canon man I would say have a look at the Canon EOS 1000D.

if liveview is a feature you care about then Sony is a good one to go for as their liveview system uses the faster phase focusing (i.e. it's as fast as normal shooting) whereas other cameras use slower contrast detect.

i would recommend a 2nd hand sony A350 or A300 over the A330 as the older generation have better ergonomics, larger battery and a AEL button

Sony are very quick to release them after announcing them, a month. They are also VERY expensive at launch.

If buying "now", get the A330 from Jessops, it's a bargain IMO, assuming you like the feel of it.

yes, ive done it, just bought it, its got its standared lens kit, and i will be purchasing upgraded one in near future, but i have 30days to change my mind on this anyway.

Came to £380 with a bag, memory card and card reader.

battery is charging now and will take 4 and half hours, is this normal?

are there products out there that would minimise this ridiculous time-frame?

First time battery charge on Lithium-Ion is longer than normal - should be down to a couple of hours Max. afterwards - of course the time taken is irrelevant if you buy a couple of spare compatible batteries at around £10 each from somewhere like 7DayShop.co.uk
