Well, I've been tempted into dabbling with an SVS Sub, in preperation for the Loft Conversion project at the end of the year.

I want to get it early, but need to work on the all important WAF!

I phoned the better half and in mid conversation 'casually' mentioned I was thinking of another speaker to 'save space' (The cyclinder SVS subs have a smaller footprint than my current KEF PSW2500). She was not too pleased....... :suicide:

I therefore request the help of the combined knowledge in this forum to overcome the most difficult task of all, how do I obtain WAF certification when it has already been declined?!!?? HELP! :lease:

    Hi Kazman
Pretend that your kef subs blown up be very unhappy for a couple of days(use the kef when shes not there)
then order the svs  then take the misses out for lunch and casually tell her you cant live without a sub and there just happened to be one going cheap at a special price so you ordered it.You may have to sell the kef on the side but believe me you wont regret it when you hear the svs you could also use the extra money to get the pc+ which would be better in a room as big as yours.
Ps if i had waited till i got permission i would never have got one you just have to jump off the cliff and take the bumps but you will survive :rotfl:
    Cheers Gonzo.

It's going to go up the loft eventually isn't it.........who needs permission for that!

Just buy it then she has no choice.

You can make your own tea for a week surely :D

    I like Gonzo's idea :D

Thing is, I wanted to use the Kef for the secondary setup in the bedroom (which will move to the living room once the loft is finished :) ).

I could pretend that the SR7400 is too powerful for the Kef and therefore distorts it  She won't know :).......operation SVS begins soon :)

Better still, as it will hardly be used for two weeks while I go to the States, only the wife will be at home with the sister keeping her company while I'm away, so could use the guilt trip approach even more saying that 'she' must have overloaded it by not using it properly while I was away  MUHAHAHAHAHA, now I just have to make sure she NEVER EVER see's this thread :)

I would go for a Rocket or PB1-isd when I had a WAF to think of, or a PB2-Ultra or PB4+ if I had the cash.. (often these two are excluding)

Or paint it brown, stick some twigs on it and it will be a potted oak tree.

I'd hang a diamond necklace around it and say "look at what i've bought you".

Not only will you have sex for a week, but a lovely new sub as well.

Thats more "bang for your buck" :D

or just buy it and hide...that seems to work for me!!!

Huh? You're forgetting it's a rolled up carpet all by itself!

Keep working on the domestic diplomacy though.

    :rotfl: :rotfl:

I have had the pleasure of meeting Kazman in the flesh and I dont want to meet Ms Kazman if he is that worried about this. Maybe I am lucky with Miss Dfour as she is quite happy to let me buy what I want as long as it doesnt take over  and it comes in black :smashin: which makes buying hifi stuff easy

Hey kazman you could always say you bought it off me m8 :lesson:  :D She knows you came down to see me and we played with sub's. What she dont know wont hurt her (or you:devil: ) Just say I was upgrading and it was a bargain :D

:D I like the idea about the wife 'breaking' the Kef :), tiz the tatic I will be using to negotiate the SVS :).

I won't be telling her how much :) I'll get her some jewellery and a few designer tops and she'll be happy again. I might have to order a few takeouts for dinner though, but I think I can get away with it :)..........now I just can't decide between the the 25-31 PC+ and the 20-39 PC+

How about saying "I'm sorry but i've gone to all this trouble/going to all this trouble to do the conversion and I really need this as the special finishing touch to make it just about perfect".

Frankly if I was your wife... i'd use a frying pan... Stand up for yourself. Or haven't you been given permission to stand up for yourself  :zonked:

The thing is, my wife has been quite tolerant with my gadget habits, but right now our living room is full with large speakers, and she has kinda had enough of speakers :) ;), especially Subwoofers :)

I've sold the Eltax sub-10 now (got rid of it for £40 which isn't bad a deal), therefore, the purchase of the SVS will go a little smoother. Or I could just go all caveman and buy it now.............;)

I'm going to get it, but timing is everything for this one :D It will probably be the last AV purchase I'll be making for a LONG time. (Mind you, that is what I said when I bought the KEF 4 months ago LOL!)

Being serious for thirty seconds, you will probably think about upgrading every other component a couple of times over before you think about upgrading an SVS

You could try just buying it and setting it up. When the wife comes in and says "whats that!". You say "What?". She says "That great big dustbin looking thing". You say "Wow, where did that come from?".... ah maybe not

My wife had to help me get our 16-46 in its box up the steep stairs to our listening room.

It was a really tense moment I can tell you!

She hated the look, the finish and the size. :censored:

30 seconds into a track of her favorite music she was grinning! :D

We've never looked back. Mind you, I bought the suboofer for her in the first place.

Because she was always complaining about the lack of bass welly on the 753s.

She's still looking for more bass!

But I'm not having her cluttering up the place with a pair of Ultras !
