Dolby Laboratories have announced that Cyberlink PowerDVD 11 Ultra will support playback of online content featuring Dolby Digital Plus surround sound.

“As consumers enjoy more and more of their entertainment content online, Dolby aims to help provide an overall experience that matches what has become standard on Blu-ray and DVD. This includes great audio quality and surround sound,” said Robin Selden, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Dolby Laboratories. “With Cyberlink PowerDVD 11 supporting online content featuring Dolby Digital Plus, consumers can get that great entertainment experience right from the Web.”

Dolby Digital Plus supports up to 7.1 channels of audio. As online entertainment evolves, Dolby Digital Plus will allow for playback compatibility with existing and future home entertainment equipment.

“Dolby and Cyberlink have a longstanding relationship delivering high-quality multichannel audio to consumers no matter how they consume their PC entertainment,” said Alice H. Chang, CEO, CyberLink Corp. “We are excited to offer the first playback software using Dolby Digital Plus for Internet-delivered content and we are eager for consumers to experience immersing surround sound from downloaded entertainment on their PCs with PowerDVD 11.”

CyberLink PowerDVD 11 Ultra is available now for purchase or a free trial at www.cyberlink.com. Free high-definition Dolby Digital Plus content is available for download at www.cyberlink.com/event/dolby-digital-plus.
