    Hi Everyone...

I see Richer Sounds are doing the Cyberhome ADL528 (Multi-Region) DVD Player for £99..

Does anyone have any experience of this player and what are your thoughts??

    Cheers

Good picture, good sound. Lots of connections, though some just unneccesary (component outs on a £99 player?). Too big, a bit shoddy, very noisy and can get very hot at times. You gets whats you pays your moneys for in the end, and in the end it's a bit of a bargain.

Though not as much of a bargain as it once was; there's much better out there now for only a bit more. It's not being snobbish when I say that sticking with more well known brands will probably result in better players.

Supposedly, but do a search. I've heard a lot of moans about the fact that it doesn't, at least not reliably.

We do expect a lot for our 99 quid don't we?? :D

If anyone has any specific experience I would be grateful. It's a possible present but it's gotta play the old VCD/SVCD.

    Cheers

According to the Richer Sounds website it can do the below...

This fantastic player is compatible with DVD, VCD, CDR, CDRW, and MP3 discs. It also features optical and coaxial digital outputs and a PAL/NTSC dual TV system.

    Thanks Moncs

But I was looking for personal experience if possible - they don't always do what they say on the tin.

PS. Sorry for Highjacking the thread!

    Cheers

I can assure you this player will play everything - inc your SVCD's and CDR/DVDR's

    £99 from playstationmods.com/dvd.htm

or £120 with their own macrovision removal modchip fitted

My mate is on his 2nd one of these and it still won't play The Mummy Returns R1 correctly - yet the same disk plays ok on 4 other budget players we have tried it on. He's had probs with other disks also and is about to request another replacement.

It does not play VCDs very well. In fact, if you play an NTSC VCD and output to PAL (it converts to 50 fields) expect regular lockups and picture loss. I also remember lock ups if some of the buttons were pressed in the "wrong" order.

I tried this unit as a karaoke player. Took it back to Richer sounds and bought a Pioneer 343 (this also outputs CDG throught the PCM output which the Cyberhome did not.

My advise- don't buy this cheap.
