Cutting clips in Vegas 8

Editing my footage from my HF100 is driving me mad.

I have Sony Vegas 8 and want to stick with that unless there is an easier alternative for not too much money

All I want to do is very basic stuff and I'm sure it's very easy when you know how. I've imported clips into Vegas and want to cut small sections out of each clip but how do you do it Do you have to open it in trimmer or something?

I've used virtualdub for non HD stuff and it's sooo easy to cut small bits of clips out using that (use home, end and delete keys!)

Once video & audio are in the timeline just move cursor over selected areas and press S, then right mouse click and select delete and that's it.
