for Die Hard Box Set


has anyone else been hit with customs charges for anything

£33 for some t-shirts i bought over the net (my fault really thought i'd be lucky)

however i just recieved my die hard trilogy set and didn't pay a thing for that.

it's just pure luck

I just got stung for £12.07 for the LOTR box set from Play. So you're not immune from duty shopping at Play.

it seems that everyone is getting hit from play, maybe the customs are having a thing for play parcels and also it's near christmas

Yep me too £8.39 for the LOTR 4 disk set from Play, why so much though that a third of the cost?

It's just one of those things Pete. If something comes into the country for more than £17.99 if the person processing it at the sorting office can charge you duty on it. Sometimes people can't be arsed/turn a blind eye, sometimes they want to nail you for it.

Anything thats posted from outside the UK with a value greater than £17.99 including the price of postage should really incure customs charges. Play used to get around this by posting from Jersey but some items now come from the US/Canada so you get stung. If I remeber rightly they did state this in a warning message that came up after ordering the LOTR extended edition.

kevb it is not the post office that charges you customs, it is royal mail for the customs department

CD-wow are good but you can still get nailed for customs charges as they ship from Hong Kong.

I got the R2 4 disk version of FOTR from play. The package states that it is UK VAT paid so there won't be customs charges. They have been shipping Games like this for ages and this is the first time I've seen it on a DVD - mind you it's the first I've got from them over £18 for some time. My guess is that if it's <£18 they don't bother with VAT thereby keeping prices down as much as possible. Over £18 they pay the VAT and have done with it, perhaps thats the reason for this set not being too much cheaper than it is in the shops. On R1 stuff I guess they can't pay the VAT.

Play used to get around this by posting from Jersey

Posting from Jersey is the problem with play. Since it's a special situation WRT tax HMCE treat it as the same as importing from outside of the EU (if you import from an EU country the £18 limit doesn't apply since you will pay the VAT for that country)

Watch for an announcement in the next two weeks in the Chancellors pre budget statement. The EU want to do away with the £18 limit, making all imports liable to tax. Several threads have discussed this in the past week or two or you can read the What Hi-Fi

yea but r2 stuff doesn't incur customs charges because it's not imported.

i bought the r1 Die Hard box set a couple of months ago from Play and I didn't get hit with customs, luck of the draw I guess

Didn't get LOTR but I did get Band of Brothers from CD-WOW. Arrived with no charges and AFAIK nobody on this bored has mentioned getting hit for that set even tho CD-WOW state the value of the goods on the label.
