I was just wondering how do you pay any customs/VAT charges etc.

If your are buying something for say £40 quid anda it goes throught customs and get's caught how do you pay and when do they deliver the item?

Does it get delivered like normal or do you have to wait until the charges have been paid. Do they pick up the payment when it it delivered. Do you get something thougth the post telling you how much you have to pay?

    How does this work?

...You get a note telling you to pick it up from the P.O.

After forking out £4 (P.O. admin charge) plus the missing V.A.T. on the goods they hand them over.

    £11 quid in your example.

If it's via a courier -- like UPS -- they charge you £10 (for their admin charge) on top of the Duty and Tax that is due.
