Customs duty on "Duty Free" Ipod??

Active Member
My mate is currently in Florida and is flying back at 11pm tonight.

What I want to know is whether there would be any duty/taxes to pay if she bought me a mini ipod from the airport and brought it back in her hand luggage?

I need to know by about 9pm tonight, if anyone knows, I would be very grateful!

Thanks in advance

i would have thought, it'll be ok.

I'd say it's worth the risk - you'll be one of the first people in the UK to have one in any case. Much of it will be down to luck, whether her hand luggage gets searched, and how switched on Customs and Excise are.

Let us know how you get on, anyway!

A person travelling from the USA is allowed to import £145 of goods for his/her personal use, in addition to the allowances for booze & fags.

Just have her chuck the box and carry the iPod on her person or in her hand luggage - nobody'll bat an eyelid. If you really want to keep the box, she could flatten it and stick it in the bottom of her suitcase (keeping the iPod itself on her person as above).

With personal items like portable CD/MP3 players, cameras, shavers, etc, etc, I've never been charged customs, and I travel a lot.
