 Hi, I recently ordered some DVDs from Amazon.com & before the Post Office would hand them over, I was hit with a £10 customs charge.   . This has only happened twice before & only when my order didn't arrive, so Amazon sent it by express 5 day delivery. Is this charge normal now? If it is I will be very reluctant to buy discs from America.
    Cheers, Neil.

Ps Does anyone have any sugestions to where I can buy R1s without having to pay this damned customs charge?
    :( :( :(

    www.movietyme.com

    www.play247.com

Also you should be safe from customs if you order the discs individually. If it was a large box then I'd expect you to get hit.

www.play.com used to supply all R1 DVD's at no extra charge but they have recently started showing a disclaimer that states you may get charged import duties. This only applies to items above £17.99 though. You could try http://www.dc-dvd.net/index.php which although a little dearer does not seem to incur any such costs.
By the way Neil,do you have a sister called Maria by any chance?

Customs charges seem a bit random. I ordered the R1 triple Die Hard Box set from Play. Got the disclaimer, got the discs, no customs nasties. Not sure how they choose to charge or not.

34 pounds is the limit for an unsolicited gift, 18 is the limit for anything you have ordered.
customs charges should be applied to everything exceeding the limits but there isn't the manpower to check every parcel. they pick out the obvious ones and then others at random.
i find customs charges are very rare except with amazon who sem to get hit nearly every time.

You may also care to try dvdboxoffice.com who re-ship from France for most euro sales though they are Canadian based, so even boxsets slip the customs net.

Just to conform what encaser said, I've had several box sets from dvdboxoffice.com and have never had a customs charge.
