I've recently had lots of price increases from suppliers, in the region of 10-30%!!

I was told by one supplier that they had not increased there prices for 4 years. I though about this later and since quite a bit of the equipment is from the USA I should have asked why they didn't reduce the prices when the £ was so high against the dollar. Reason: they were making more money off us installers, that's why!!!!

I remember getting some equipment from an installer I knew in the states at the beginning of last year and he made a profit selling it to me at 50% cheaper than UK trade. I paid the import taxes and still it was 40% cheaper than suppliers trade prices.

    This country is a joke.

Same situation for everyone I'm afraid.

In the build up to Christmas and the few weeks that have passed since I've had at least 4 or 5 emails from big players in the industry (distributors) telling of price increases.

Some have added 50% to prices i think those that dont put in silly increases will benefit.

I've just kicked Denon into the long grass and gone with Harman Kardon for this very reason - no loss in quality, elegant products and still some margin from a great rep who wants the business - no brainer for us.

    leax have gone too apparently

i think in the next couple of months there will be a fair few more in the middle range of the industry going pop

i know that the corporate side of custom install has been decimated there all trying to muscle into residential and the OHP project

It is really hard at the moment.

We went under just before Christmas, one of three in our area in 6 weeks.

    Not good for anyone.

I think the smaller businesses with less overheads are the most likely to survive. I've got loads of work on, but I'm only paying me.

Biggest problem is getting paid for jobs. I've moved to 75% up front now due to non payers.

I think many of the bigger companies have overpaid staff. I've met many at CEDIA who are drawing very good salaries with big CI companies, and yet are clueless! First ones out the door should be the 'I just do programming' crowd, pain in the butt lazy sods the lot of em :) Get on the end of that plasma and lift it ..............

(I can smell the keyboards heating up as they get away from the porn and compose a fuming retort)

They went into Administration back then, were bought out and I now believe the new owners have gone into administration too.
