Hey. I've been wanting to ask this question here for a while, but couldn't be bothered to make an account. Then I found out that I already had an account, that I made last year

    Anyway here goes:

It's a well-known fact, that a 19" CRT computer monitor only has a viewable area of 18" in most cases. We also know that an 19" LCD computer monitor, has a viewable area of just that - 19".

BUT - is it the same with televisions? Because I'm considering a 32" CRT or a 32" LCD - if the 32" CRT really only is 30" in actual size, then that would certainly make a difference to me.... is this the case?

I've just replied to you on another thread! Anyway, yes, you've got it! LCD's measure what they say. A 32" LCD is 32" inches across etc. and yes, a 32" CRT is (slightly less than) 30" across. A CRT measurement refers to the size of the tube, some of which is obscured behind the TV frame allowing us to see less than the suggested measurement. Simple really.

Yea, LCDs usually are the correct size, although not always. Most of the time a CRT will have 2" - 2.5" missing off of the viewable size.

To be sure, check the size of the display in CM. If it says 81cm, then it will be 81cm viewable.

    My 36" CRT measures about 33" !!

A 37" LCD (sadly not mine) against it looks massive...

This is why I plumped for a 32" to replace my 36" CRT.

Very similar size all things considered.

Especially since I've been coping with a 28" CRT in the interim which actually seems quite big at the moment!!!
