There are currently no HDTV capable CRT TVs in Europe at all. There are plenty in the US though. Apparently Samsung announced "short-neck" CRT HDTVs for 05/2006 in Europe. No exact specs yet, but these should have all the advantages of current LCD HDTVs, but lots cheaper (prices should be around 350 pounds for 30"), and without the response time issues LCDs have

    Looking forward to this one!

That's exactly what I was mentionning above :)

I have seen that there JVC make some HD compatible CRTs. Google JVC HV-28D40 for example.

It seems though that they lack HDMI or other digital inputs... not sure that the aforementioned samsung screens are going to have them either...

These are thrilling times for tech freaks, but it's far to confusing in any case...

You can get the JVC HV32p37S 32" CRT which is what I've got & it's 1080i compatable via Component.

So if you buy the 360 Premium pack that comes with the HD Component capable your laughing HD gaming is at your finger tips & all for about £380 delivered from Empire Direct (Which is where my one came from)

sounds like a very exciting announcement. ID like to see:
    1. HDMI imput
    2. Component imput
    3. 2 scarts

If the above connections are present i may consider buying this set.
However i felt the same last year when they first released 'slim fit' tvs and they turned out to be a massive disappointment - aparantly they are terrible with sky and football?

It would be great if samsung solved the inherent problems with their first attempt of 'slim fit'. If they do acheive it, i would say that there will be big sales here in Ireland and Britain.

Anyone got any more info/opinions about the new samsung slimfit crt tv?

    Hi mate,

Unfortunately I dont have a 360 to run on it yet, been too busy wasting the money on Retro gaming gear :suicide:

However for normal SD TV, DVD & X-Box/Game Cube/PS2 through RGB I cant fault it.

PQ is excellent (Once you have a quick fiddle with the settings)
Sound is great (although mine runs through AV setup so cant comment fully)
Enough connections to keep most people happy...

    3 x Scart (2 RGB)
    1 x Component
    1 x S-Video
    1 x Composite
2 x Audio Out (1 connected to the Component)

Ok so it's not totally future proof for HD TV/DVD or Blu-Ray but as a stop gap set till LCD/Plasma HD gets better & cheaper its doing exactly what I want it to do & then some.

All of my mates & family that have seen it think it's a fantastic set & cant believe how cheap it was...IMO it embarrases any LCD or Plasma I've seen so far below the £1500 mark (I'll wait for the flaming to begin with that one ;) )

I honestly cant recommend the set enough.

    HTH

The problem for me with them is the weight and sheer bulk.
The one neil recomended weighs in at like 50Kg !!!!!
Maybe I move around to much but I wouldnt fancy lugging that down a few flights of stairs!!!
Now a nice HDTV LCD same size can be around 18kg. So I can move it around the room to see where it looks best. It costs about three times as much though :)

Fingers crossed for the samsung one, if its slimmer and lighter could def be one I might consider.

Erm yep they arent light by any stretch of the immagination...had to lug my one up 3 flights of stairs to get it into the flat
Luckily enough the Empire Direct delivery guys were great & did most of the work themselves ;)

Still not as bad as the set I donated to my parents...36" Hitachi which weighed in at 75kg

Sorry but thats complete garbage on what you have just said.

Here is a link to PROVE you can get a HDTV CRT right now however I would wait Samsungs new offering in 2 months time which is hopefully going to be 720p and 1080i with HDMI connections.

The link shows support for 1080i only with component and displays in HD format:

The new samsung probably won't do true 720p though. It will most likely scale it to 1080i as it is cheaper to do this than create a true multi-sync tube which does 480p, 720p and 1080i natively.

The US version of this set, like with all consumer CRT HD's simply displays 480p and 1080i natively.

    Hi Folks,
Just thought I'd throw this Cat among the Pidgeons.
If you have not already heard or seen these articles about SED TV's being produce in partnership between TOSHIBA and CANON. They are a compromise of CRT and LCD Screen Technology with 100,000 : 1 contrast ratio, that's right folks I did not enter one zero too many....100,000 : 1....!!!!!!
Due for release in Europe for the World Soccer Series 2006.
I won't give you a Website as there are a lot, but just stick the following line into your Web Search and enjoy the read!!!!

    REVIEWS TOSHIBA CANON SED TV

    Luke.

    Hey sorry folks,

I did the above search in late January-06 and at that stage the release date was set as mentioned, but since this post I did another search and it appears they have delayed production till mid-late 2007.

    Some features will be:

    1,920 X 1,080 resolution
    100,000 : 1 contrast ratio
    less than 1millisecond response time
1/3 less power usage than plasma sets
    Truer, sharper color

Might just get a good quality Widescreen 100Hz CRT with progressive scan, to get me through till then!

    Luke.

See it's exactly things like this that made me decide on the JVC in the first place...there was no way I was spending a fortune on a sub standard HD Ready Plasma/LCD when technology like that is just over a year away.

The current crop of "HD Compatible" CRT's are perfect affordable stop gaps till the better Tech proper HD stuff is readily available.
Just wish more people would see that, still if they have the money to waste more fool them ;) ;)

...actually I realised it and posted it slightly below my initial post. And to be honest, you could rephrase your comments in order to not instantly flame people who make mistakes. Do not be too quick to judge people.
