hi guy's

At the moment i have the sanyo plv-30 and an iscan unit although this combination has been very good i now feel that it could be time to consider moving on to a crt projector.I will have to reasearch various models price, is a big factor (say no more than £4000)my question is can anyone recommend any models a main point would be that it should be able to accept a progressive scan signal.

It could be a good idea to scout aroud for a second hand or ex-demo unit does anyone know of any web sites where i could have a browse.

Any information would be gratfully accepted.

    regards

    richard

I have just bought a secondhand Barco 708 from Roland Brooks (07855 804981), who used to work for Barco and has just set himself up as an independent supplier/installer of used CRT's. I am delighted with the projector and the care and attention that Roland took to install and set the projector up. I am happy to refer him to you without reservation and I know that he has other Barcos available at the moment.

    Hope this helps

    Operandi
You are too kind.
At the moment I have had to drop out of the forum to get my web site finished. So if my replies are sporadic you will understand.
Apologies to any one who was unaware of my status, but yes I recondition CRT projectors mainly Barco that I feel are suitable for home cinema.
I left Barco to set up my company 3 weeks ago.

If any one has a Barco question I would be happy to try to answer.

    Dear Richard,

I upgraded from a Sony VPLVW10HT to a Seleco 500. This has been the best upgrade I have made to the system. Once you have lived with CRT, you won't go back to a single lens product.
Seleco, Sony, Barco and Ellie all make good CRT product for the money.Especially good value second hand.
Stereo Stereo are very good dealers for CRT. Horsham HiFi are also very good.
Just make sure the prog input, either via VGA or Component/BNC works properly.

I would also rate the 808 over anything else I have ever seen. There isn't anything to touch this for HC without spending a fortune. If you have the room for one. You can usually pick them up for around 3-5K second hand. Seriously good value. Cost new is somewhere around 18K I think.

    Regards Rob.

I would also agree that the 808s is the one to go for. Whilst I have always remained quiet on this point I would highly recommend Roland Brooks. His service has been truly outstanding.

And most importantly and unusally you get a guarantee with his 2nd hand projectors...

    Regards Neil.

Had an 808 fitted by Roland just under a month ago. Excellent picture. Run dvds from a pc scaled to 1024 by 768 at 75 Hz. Haven't had much time to try other settings, but when it works this well why change anything. Excellent service from Roland he installed it over 2 days.

I'd recommend Roland albeit I've had fairly limited dealings with him. He'd certainly be the man I'll call once I re-educate my wife as to the hitherto unrealised beauty of Barco CRT projectors.

Seeing as we're all praising Roland, here, I'd best clarify my position as director of M2N.
The projectors for sale at the website advertised by one of the banners above are infact from Roland.
He installed and looked after my 708 ages ago as a representative of Barco. I then got into conversation with Jenz, who came up for a demo and convinced by the quality of a HCPC and CRT, also got a 708 from Roland at a really great (and unique) price.
As time went on I upgraded to a 1209 from Roland at a special price in exchange for some help in selling some CRTs. Hence the advert here. I also demo my HCPC and 1209 to anyone who is interested in getting a projector from Roland. Infact Neil (see post above) had a demo at my house.
I have to be as impartial as possible when moderating these forums but on a personal level, I have to say that Roland is one of the nicest blokes I have met, and he goes out of his way to ensure the installation is as good as it can be. I thoroughly recommend him for anyone who wants a used CRT.
