Can anyone help? I have a Region 1 Pioneer DVD player and a multiregion Pioneer portable. Whenever I try to view any of my Region 1 American DVDs through my video projector, a Vidikron CRT, the picture is b+w and rolls. I understand that this is because both players convert from NTSC to PAL 60 and not regular PAL 50. It may also have something to do with Macrovision. What can I do about this? I don't want to have to repalce equipment. Can I buy/make a simple conversion unit?

Is your pioneer player really region 1 and not 2?..i thought a region 1 would output ntsc?...what are your connections?..is the vidikron multistandard?

I have 2 Pioneers - a region 1 and a portable region 2 (multiregion). There is a selector on both to change between NTSC and PAL but this is PAL 60 not PAL50. I have tried RCA connectors, SCART connectors and BNC. Vidikron projector is PAL only.

Your pioneer region 1 is outputing ntsc which the vidikron cant cope with..you need something to transcode the ntsc signal into pal.

From what you describe, it appears that your projector won't display the 525-line 60hz image that is intrinsic to NTSC video (and it's PAL60 cousin). What you seem to need is either
    a) a new projector capable of 525/60 display
    b) a DVD player which will output "true" PAL/625/50 (AFAIK, only certain Samsung models do this, and not too well - jerky movement)
    c) a video standards converter. Among other places, Lektropacks do several. Their "best" one, which is S-video compatible, costs £599.

Thanks Charles. All rather pricey options though! I have heard that a PAL 60 to PAL50 convertor is available. That was from a DVD specialist but he did not know where to get one.
