    Hi,

I'm hoping to convert 1 side of my garage into HC room, but I'm limited by these dims 2.3m wide x 4.5m long. with the projector screen on the end shortest wall, but do I have sufficient room to install a CRT type (hopefully barco) projector? OR am I best looking at a LCD!!

What sort of screen size would be ideal in relation to seating position?

    cheers

    Gary

Most people recon that 1.5 times the screen width is the most comfortable veiwing possition.
That is also the same projection throw as a CRT.
For your room size I would look to achieve about a 6ft wide screen which will give stunning brightness and still give you room for your L&R speakers.

    Thankyou for your reply Roland.

So doin the maths 1.8m wide screen(x1.5) so sitting 2.7m away with the CRT overhead only leaving 1.8m to the back wall

Sorry for the basic questions, but this effects whether I do the project or not!!

From what I have read a used barco would fit my needs in terms of quality & pocket, would it fit in the space left (1.8m) to back wall how much noise do these things generate?

I've not seen many 1.8 meter long projectors recently. most are less then a metre so you should be fine.
Noise will be an issue if you do not vent the hot air out of the room.
If this a flat roof then you will have to look at some really good insulation between the ceiling joists. I have two vents just behind the projector in the ceiling they are vented by a fan to outside an the heat from aprojector is not tooo much of a problem.

So all the noise is from cooling fans, something I had not considered. Its a sloping tiled roof so venting shouldn't be a problem.

Hope you don't mind me asking, but as you are not that far away I wondered if it would be possible to visit your setup, too see how its done properly and maybe avoid any major problems?

    Regards

    Gary
