I may be overly paranoid about this, but I'd rather not end up in unexpected situations. Our daughter (under two years old) has my surname. Normally all three of us (wife, daughter and myself) would travel abroad together, however due to some unusual circumstances (wife has some courses going on), I'm thinking of going over to France to see my parents just with the little one, no wife this time. There are no other complications, we all live together, etc. The Gov website isn't totally clear on this to my eyes; it seems to say that if we have the same surname then I (as the father) would still need a letter from the mother, agreeing to my taking the child out of the country. Has anyone else dealt with this, am I getting the right idea? Can it just be a simple letter, signed and with her contact details?
