    Hi all,

How come Arcam Cd and Dvd players transport are so good damn crooked ?

Ok maybe Arcam isnt the finest on earth, but we dont get the stuff for free when buy them as new.

Maybe thats way they have problems reading discs ? (Dvd-rws etc, and some dvd-rs take 10 times before my dvd start to read it.

Ι have a dvd 29 and a cd 33 and i must say that i am impressed from their compatability with every kind of discs! DVD-R DVD+R CD-R CD-RW everything plays like an original!!! I used to have problems only with my Denon 3910 DVD which had really big problem reading discs and sometime it stop in the middle of the movie, other dvd-r or dvd+r discs could never recognize though they were ok!!!

On my DV27+ some of my DVDs have started failing to read, and sometimes just repeat a section in a loops for a few sections or simply get stuck like an extended layer change -- this is even with DVDs brand new out the packaging. My friend's DV27+ now only reads/plays about 1 in 10 DVDs.

Both used to work perfectly, so we've both got services planned for our machines.

Wonder what causes behaviour like this?

I thought that I read somewhere that the transports were made by Sony?? I could be wrong but I'll do some quick research. I too have the DV29 and the CD33 and they're flawless

Yea, according to Stereophile mag July 2004 they state that "The transport is a CD-Text-capable mechanism sourced from Sony"...so maybe in the installation process they are assembled a bit off...But again, mine are perfect!

Hi all, i most admit that im a rather finicki but my transport isnt 100 % strait. My friends transport is very crooked indeed, and he thinks mine is almost strait.

When it comes to reading, its "only" cd-r,dvd-r rw that it has problem with but im working on it...

Well it have one problem w David Bowie-Diamond Dogs Cd, while playing the 5 first tracks it sounds like the player should brake... dddrrrrrrrrrr. Have never had any problems before w this Cd on other players.

I regret that i upgraded my software from 4.18.0 to 5.13.0 , maybe its that ?
And i still have the original firmware LT76. Maybe one have to upgrade the fw aswell ?

Shall try other brands when it comes to Cd-r Dvd-r etc Use Virbatim now, and i thought that they were rather good.

And shall also try Nero instead of Santa as software for Dvd-r burning.

And the last thing to do then is take cds or dvds that my player have problems w to one of my local stores and see how their players react w those cd/dvdrs.
If they work fine on their players i guess mine is faulty .

Slightly off the topic, but the transport on my alpha 7(upgraded to CD82 3 months ago) stopped working last night. Basically, when I insert a cd, nothing happens -doesn't display number of tracks and won't play the disc.

The unit itself also has started making a slight humming noise, even when switched off.

Does anyone have any ideas what is wrong, or whether this is fixable?

I have had 3 failed transports in my DV88+, but the last one has now been going for a couple of years no problem.

It plays all types of discs fine..

So is it the transport that causes the kind of read failures I listed above?

And what do we mean by "crooked"?
