    Re: SPARTACUS

When I viewed this movie on the Criterion DVD I noticed some minor flaws, but the one thing that started to annoy me, once I
noticed it, was a subtle flicker in the picture - most notably in the sky.
This effect, whilst subtle, was most noticeable in Chapter 27 when the
slave army is crossing the desert, and in Chapter 37 when the two armies
prepare to do battle and you see Olivier and his two generals on horses
on the hill. The effect is not unlike a very fast macrovision effect
(like someone rapidly adjusting the brightness control up and down gently) only not
as pronounced or slow. Did anyone else notice this? and if so do you think it is
a problem in the print, transfer, disc or have I got a faulty copy (it
was quite dirty and scratched when I got it!)

    Please let me know

    Thanks,

I noticed the same on Lawrence of Arabia on certain scenes, particularly those with a lot of sky in them.

I just put it down to the age of the film. I didnt let it bother me after a while as the DVD picture is still superb...perhaps it is too good so you notice the flaws in the print ?
