criterion is like a drug. it may be legal but it is highly addictive.
be very carefull, many have started getting 'criterion' on a casual basis, just things they know they'll enjoy like the rock or armageddon but it will lead to these being joined by about 140 other types of 'criterion'
i wish i could go back to that fatefull day when i was offered crack round the back of the social club. if only i'd said yes my life would have been so much simple.

    don't say you weren't warned.

    :D

    Criterion

A standard, rule, or test on which a judgment or decision can be based.

Like the analogous etymological plurals 'agenda' and 'data', 'Criterion' is widely used as a singular form. Unlike them, however, it is not yet acceptable in that use.

be carefull of the ones you buy though as im lead to believe certain disks are not as good as that are not criterion example armageddon.i bought this film on criterion then found out the region 2 had an anamorphic picture an the criterion didnt.must admit i do prefer my picture on the dvd box though as opposed to the region2 lol:D

The Criterion Armageddon is a superb transfer, although not anamorphic, its stunning. Other mainly older stuff is not as good obviously. Robocop is quite grainy as is Spinal Tap. I believe they have now been remastered so there are probably better versions now available picture-wise. The Criterion Life of Brian is a great disc. Picture and sound are way better than the other (anchor bay) version. Criterion discs are certainly not cheap, but are usually loaded with tons of extras. Well worth it if its a movie you love.

I have the Criterion Life of Brian R1. I have to say its superb, and its been out a few years and includes loads of deleted scenes and commentary. I couldn't believe it when the R2 disk was released in full frame with no extras at all. But someone must have bought it! Highly recommended.
