    Hi All,

I'm sure this is a novice question so apologies in advance!

I've purchased a cat5e cable and crimping kit but when I cut open the casing the wires inside are a) not twisted and b) only solid colours (Green, Brown, Blue, Orange and 4 whites). All the diagrams online show twisted wires where one is solid and one has a striped pattern so I'm confused now as to how what cable it is I have and how I crimp it!

    Can someone please help?

    TIA

Cat5e cable MUST contain twisted pairs or it won't work. Sometimes each pair is colour/white
It may be that in stripping the insulation you straightened out the wires.

I have had the same problem and suspect it is cheap cable. It was a 20m cable from amazon with two plugs fitted. I had to cut it to get it through the wall and then found the solid colours. Has anyone ever refitted a plug to one of these cables.

I did manage to get it work after contacting the seller (I bought the cable from ebay). The colours I could see in the cable were:
Red, Green, Brown, Blue and then 4 lighter coloured wires which were difficult to tell apart but were light blue, purple, light green and white.

He suggested I use the following order:

    white
    light brown
    light green
    dark blue
    light blue
    dark green
light brown (what I thought was purple)
    dark brown

I followed that colour coding and it worked.

I contacted the seller on amazon and suggested it was a fake and not to the cat5e standard and I got a full refund. Have now ordered some official cable. But might try and connect this one as well.
