My 3yr old 60GB Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra died on me the other morning. Everything froze and then I got an error message saying "Harddisk Problem".

I can't believe how much I miss it now. Travelling to and from work each day and lulling me off to sleep..............and now I've had to go back to my Sony Walkman.

    Yes. Tapes.

So now I have a choice to make.

I should add that I really hate the navigation on the ipod's that I've played with.

If it was me then 6 months is too long but I dont know your situation, If you dont like the ipod and were happy with the previous creative then id say the new creative zen vision m or an iaudio x5 or an iriver h340 (if you can get your hands on one, hard to find other than on ebay). All as respectable as the last but if you do some googling on each of them you should get a lot of info on them.

I'd get something decent now. 6 months is a long time if you use it every day.

The ZVM has been around a while so a new iteration may come out within six months? If you use it regularly I'd pick up a cheapo one now (maybe flash based) and then get yourself a proper upgrade 6 months down the line.

...or possibly the cheapest option is to just change your hard disk if you are really happy with it.

I had one of these two or three years ago and the same thing happened.

Basically your hard disk has failed, and needs replacing.

I did this a while back and it is a very easy task to undertake. You will find that it is basically a 2.5" laptop hard drive in the machine...probably a Fujitsu MH series.

If you are interested, there is a wealth of information at this forum on how to change the disk...

At the time I bought a 60GB hard disk from PCNextday.co.uk which worked perfectly for me.

I guess this one would probably be the most applicable for the Zen

Anyway this is an option for you to consider.

I do like the idea of getting a new hard disk and keeping this one as I really like this one (I've used it daily for at least 10 hrs a day for the past 3 years).

I was wondering do the people with these newfangled MP4 players actually think that the video feature is a good thing or just a gimmick?

Anyone know much about using a PSP as a music player? Apart from a PSP what else would I need?

PSP, Memory stick- that should get the psp going as a music player but its not loud so you really dont wanna be using it to play music because its terrible for that task. With the card in, go to usb mode then copy the music into the psp>music folder (i think thats the one). then exit and go to music via the psp browser and it should work fine.

I suppose I only really use the video on my ipod when im on the train for a long time/need to catch up on some programs if im in the library or if im stuck in the car (obviously as a passenger :D ). But it is a bit of a gimmick i suppose, only reason I would get a dedicated mp4 player such as the archos would be as a hdd i can attach to the tv and use as a recorder.

I tend to use mine mainly to hook up to the TV, especially when abroad. I agree, for the main part it is a gimmick. Screen sizes are not bigger enough to watch video for a long time.
