As soon as the Sub receives the LFE signal, it crackles and pops.
Switch the amp off and the crackling continues.

Any idea what's wrong with it?

Good job it doesn't snap too or it would be Rice Krispies

Does it make sounds with the phono cable unplugged?

Is it plugged into the wall or an extension socket?

A description of exactly what gear you use would be helpfull as someone on here will have something similar and could better answer your question.

Eltax EA SW20 Came with the Technics SADX940 Amp and speakers.

Connected to a extension.

Yes, it will continue to make sounds when phono is disconnected.

Guess I'll connect it to the wall socket and see what happens.

Any other ideas?

You've tried everything and it still makes these noises so I'd swap it for another, subs should should only make a sound similar to that when turning on or off (more of a pop sound though rather than crackle).

Can you confirm that the sub is being used with the correct power supply (ie it's not an import being used on UK power points)?

I've had it for 2 years, been working fine up till a month ago.
Power supply is U.K. I tried connecting to a wall socket, no joy.

Only crackles and pops when it receives a signal.
