Had our pioneer 4280xd off the wall to do some decorating, left the room for a little bit and came back to a smashed screen

Not sure how it really happened to be honest, although the little one had been running around.....

Now when I try and turn it on all I get is a loud buzzing noise and no picture, does anyone know if this is repairable?

Contact a Pioneer local dealer would be my advice. Doesn't sound good tbh mate.

 Think you'll be struggling to bring that back from the brink mate.

Contact a pio dealer who may know of qualified repair specialist.

Not the answer I was looking for, especially how rare the 42 incher is now.

Had a feeling that it would be the end, just didnt want to accept it.

Do you know if this is the kind of thing I can claim on my house insurance? I dont have a receipt or anything....

Ouch, yes thats definatly broken (professional diagnosis that).

Home insurance might be worth a shot, shame about the receipt though, still get the next size up and before Pioneer plasma's completely disappear.

No no, i mean thats what you should be looking to get since the 42s arn't knocking around.

I have no idea what your home insurance will offer, hopefully the value for a new one, but who knows. Only one way to find out...

Just make sure to tell them what you told us (about how it happened) and hopefully they'll sort you out.

Churchill definitely include damage to plasma TVs, some others but not all will do so too. My daughter made a claim after her daughter drew all over the screen of a 42 inch panasonic with a sharp pencil and permanently scratched it  :rotfl: and churchill paid up (but with an excess). The engineer told her they'd just replaced the screen, it was away for about a week.

Should be covered by any home contents insurance policy, give them a bell and tell them about it. Quite common for 'new for old' coverage, and you don't really need a receipt, they can tell it's yours and can see what it is.

What way did you lay the plasma whilst it was off the wall?

Looking at the shatter pattern of the glass I would calculate that the force of impact came from...

While the OP took that in the spirit it was intended, it's maybe better to avoid making jokes about such things.

Screen looks, in technical terms, utterly knackered :(

You should be able to claim no problem. About 5 years back, I claimed after I sat on the remote & my tv just stopped working (an older style 28" widescreen). Tried to get it repaired & the guy said I'd be as well as claiming on my insurance. I rang them up, & said it had fallen off the stand, they gave me a reference no., put me through to the company they dealt with who asked the model no. They said that model wasn't made any more & would I accept the newer model. I jumped at it, & all it cost was my £50 excess & it was delivered within 3 days. Insurance didn't even come out to look at it & the new TV I got was selling for around £500 at the time. So good luck.

You think? Hmm, maybe. I don't know - I'm just a bit uncomfortable with people making light of things like that. But you know, I bet I'd make similar jokes when talking to friends. Apologies. Over-reacted.

    Hi Chrissy!

I know you looked far and wide for that screen and I am so sorry this has happened. Hopefully you will get it replaced under your home insurance, I wish you well!

    Suave!

    Hi Chriseybaby

I was asking a friend who repairs plasma & Lcd and he said it would not have happened from being laid on its back and after he looked @ the picture you posted he said it had to be impact damage it crack the glass,Also he said a NEW pioneer plasma panel would cost around £500-£800 used panel would be cheaper but he says his company 9 out of 10 claims for same thing they just write it off for the insurance companies

You should be ok leaving it face down though, if it's not being moved. Certainly reduces the risk of it taking a whack, although treading-on becomes a possibility :)

Interestingly, the video someone posted recently of that American guy swinging a conker-sized ball bearing into a Panasonic panel showed it had no effect on the glass at all. This must have really been an unlucky knock.

Sure... but when you pick it up always make sure 2 people lift both sides at the same time or you will stress the glass.
