Mine has just fallen out my hand and landed face down on the tiled hallway floor and sadly I now have a cracked screen

It still works, the display still there and can still operate it but its shattered and sharp

What are my options regards repair etc ?

Should I diy ( can you DIY even ? ) or is it a home insurance claim ?

Having a look online it seems a DIY fix can be tricky, complicated and fiddly, not to mention need £100 for the screen

Seems the digitiser and the glass are now "as one" so not a case of replacing the glass

Will have to give insurance company a ring

You maybe able to claim off your home insurance if you and accidental damage cover but with the excess and the hike in the premuim it may not be worth it in the long run.

I work in home insurance and would normally tell people looking to claim for damage to phones etc its entirely up to them to claim but in the long run you will pay more to the insurance company than they will pay you plus you will lose any no claims discount that you may have.

    Food for thought.

By all accounts apple charge about hundred and sixty to replace / repair
I'm guessing as you say in long run this be cheaper than claim.

Anyone know how I go about contacting them
Tried calling birmingham branch and no answer

We would book an appointment with Apple and once they repair/replace the handset they bill us.

We have an agreement set up with them for iPhones. For any other phone we ask that the handset is sent in to us. We pay the cost of replacement subject to a policy excess.

As gonzo has said it would be cheaper in the long run to book the Genius appointment yourself and pay for it out of your own pocket.

Sadly no appointments on only day I'm free this week and then back at work so arranging for it to be done over the phone and sent away. Very helpful chap.
180 quid but would been 60 at least on the excess then increased premiums

Might be too late, but take a look at this: iPhone 5 Repair - iFixit

Also, I'm guessing no case on the phone?
