Im considering a CPU upgrade from a Phenom II X2 550 to a i5-3570K
Going by

Intel Core i5 3570K vs AMD Phenom II X2 550

i would imagine it to be a sizable upgrade for gaming.

Yet on another site i see someone posting to the effect that such an upgrade would not offer much of a gaming performance upgrade.

I play MTW2 quite a lot which is a CPU intensive game.

The intel chip means a new MB, im thinking of the Gigabyte SKT-1155 Z77X-D3H.

Any opinions welcome.

Adrian.

What graphics card do you have? Nevertheless a CPU upgrade would definitely be worthwhile.

GPU Sapphire 11180-00-40R HD 6850 1GB GDDR but i iwish id got an nvidia,
i like gigabyte MBs had an Asus once and drivers issues, Gigabyte ive always found straight forward.

I would say your GPU is being bottlenecked by the CPU then. An i5 3570k will make a very nice improvement if you go for it. Not sure why you wish you went with nvidia as the 6850 was and still is a decent card

the Z77X-D3H is a great MB. I have a 3770k on mine and runs beautifully. Great options for overclocking too.
Also a great MB for doing a Hackintosh build :)
