CPU for 1080p playback?

Would a Athlon X2 4050e Dual Core plus a GeForce 9300ge do the thing?

Looking for a processor that can play fluid 1080p MKV H264 files without any problems.

Any recomendations?!

Thanks in advance

Ya it would but better of with a AMD Athlon X2 5050e its not much, i think your 9300 graphics can encode the movies anyway without stressing the cpu:hiya:

Sort of is the answer...
If video is encoded in a certain way then it will benefit from hardware acceleration and then everything will be done on the GPU (9300 will do this) and you will get perfect 1080p playback.

The problem is that not all files have been encoded to respect the standards and this can break the hardware acceleration resulting in all the decoding being done on the CPU. In this situation the 4050e or 5050e might struggle with stuff encoded at a high bitrate.

If you are playing back from physical media or encoding yourself there is no issue but there is a possibility the combo could struggle with CPU decoding. Check out the Home Cinema PCs forum, lots of people there use a 5050e processor for HD material
