Elton John and Alessandro Safina's cover of "Your Song".
Compared to the original, it's out of tune, out of time and EJ even forgets the words. Really awful. Possibly the worst version of this ever recorded.
    What covers make you wince....

Too many to list. Most of all, I hate cover versions that try to sound like the original.

My favourite cover version is "Easy" by Faith No More. A truly brilliant version and I prefer it to the original by the Commodores. :)

Therre's very few covers I like (and far too many I detest!), but the 'goodies' in my book are:

    Gun, Word Up
    Cranberries, Go Your Own Way
    Wheatus, A little respect
    Little Angels, So tired.
and prob a few more I've forgotten.

I remember Simple Minds doing a rather terrible version of Sign o' the times. (no doubt someone will tell me that they liked it !)
Anyone hear Nick Cave covering 'Disco 2000' by Pulp ?
Now that's a great way to do a cover version:cool:

American Pie by Madonna was an insult.

OTH I think Tainted Love by Marilyn Manson is till the best single I've heard this year. And David Gray's version of Say Hello, Wave Goodbye is brilliant.

Sorry lechacal. A bit of a coincidence - I hadn't read all the posts.
(Maybe I better make that a habit)

The Manson cover only works when you get the video and song.
Audio only and I'd rather have the Soft Cell version.

I second that! Forgot about that one! The cover is vastly superior to the original.

Anything else you'd like to ban, while you're at it?
Small dogs? Sweaty people? Birds that sing too loudly in the morning?
I hope you don't really have a gun.

'Wuthering Heights' (Kate Bush) China Drum

    Bad cover version:

'Under The Bridge' (RHCP) All Saints

I dislike the cover versions that sound exactly the same as the original, where the artists haven't even bothered adding their own creative talent and originality to it (if they had any in the first place). What a waste of space

Pich did right at the start, which is probably why no one else did. He seems to have deleted his post now though.

A man well and truly with taste. Alongside that, Keith Caputo's cover of 'Why'.

    Also good:
    'Shout' by Disturbed.
    'Cars' by Fear Factory.
'Message In A Bottle' by Machine Head.
Snuff's covers of the Match Of The Day and 'The Likely Lads' theme tunes.

    Bad:
    Any and all pop covers.
Any covers of Queen songs by crap boy groups.
Any Marilyn Manson cover of cheesy 80's pop.
    Alien Ant Farm's 'Smooth Criminal'.
    Wheatus' 'Respect'.

    Pointless:
'Mrs Robinson' by The Lemonheads... OK, but why make it sound exactly the same?

A really good cover of this song was done a few years ago. However I don't know who did it. Can anyone help? I'd like to get it if I can.

    - probably Stevie Ray Vaughn - an outstanding guitarist now sadly no longer with us. If you like this then also check out Jeff Healey

Kevinh Re Tainted Love - wasn't by Soft Cell originally - dont know who but it was def a cover. (wasnt sure if it was an ironic smilly)

Worst cover? - undoubtedly Amercian Pie, closely followed by the girl group (cant recall their name surprise surprise) who covered RHCP Under the Bridge.
    cheers
    D
oh yeah and Louise's cover of Steelers Wheel - Stuck in the Middle with You - completey and utterly pointless

"Alongside that, Keith Caputo's cover of 'Why'."

Jeez, how could I have forgotten that? Caputo could show Annie Lennox a thing or two about genuine emotion.

Also, from the left of centre:

'Get Down Make Love' (Queen) by Nine Inch Nails
'(Get A) Grip (On Yourself)' (The Stranglers) by Prong
'All Hell Breaks Loose' (The Misfits) by Sick Of It All
'Won't Get Fooled Again' (The Who) by Kiss - live only

    How could I have forgotten?!?

The very BEST cover version of ALL time....

Eric Cartman sings Asia's classic 'Heat of the Moment'!

    www.asiarock.com/categories/clips.html

    It is pure genius.

I just saw THE WORST COVER VERSION OF ALL TIME on Smash Hits TV.

It was Something Inside So Strong by that fat bloke off of Pop Idol! (Rick Waller?)

It is truly truly truly grim. :(

    Good:

    Angel (Hendrix) - Rod Stewart
    Little Wing (Hendrix) - Sting

Any Bob Dylan song sung by anyone else.........

.......except Irish boy bands who should stick to painful warbling covers of BeeGees or Cat Stevens.

PS I really like Stairway to Heaven - Rolf Harris. A great bloke and a catchy little tune :p

Gareth Gates new medley of Tom Jones' "The Boy From Nowhere" and Billy Ocean's "Love Really Hurts Without You" is the best thing he's done.
