    Hi

I know nothing about photograpy but it has always intrigued me a bit.

Have often thought that I might be interested in this, specifically taking photos of things like the weather and wildlife.

Can anyone recommend a good book to study (not too complecated) that covers all the aspects from complete novice to say, competant beginner!

Also, how do poeple get pics of lightning. Happens so fast so must be impossible for cheapo cameras.

I once saw a film of this guy who was famous for getting lightning shots.

Rather than snap when the lightning struck, he had his finger pressed on the button but the shot hadn't been taken. Only when lifting off (which he could do in a split second) was the picture actually taken and he got the shot.

I guess you can only do this sort of things with SLR cameras?

He will have had the camera set to "Bulb" where as long as you keep your finger on the shutter button the shutter will remain open, once it strikes you can then take your finger off.

Normally only digtital and standard slr's have this.

You can read more about it here http://www.cimms.ou.edu/~doswell/ltgph.html

And you really need a tripod with cable release. If you spend 13 seconds with your hand jammed against the window frame the foreground gets a bit blurry :)
