I think you'll find they are £149, perhaps you misheard?

They are currently offering them free to new subscribers, so I know what price I'd want to pay. :D

499 is a nonsense, 149 is more like it, 0 is possible depending on your circumstances.

A Sky guy might have been having a bad day and said 499!
Just shows it's always better to ask at least twice, or still better to do it in writing.

We're hearing that in a lot of cases boxes are going out very discounted.. even FOC. Worth really pushing this when speaking with Sky c/s Jenny - KO

It all depends on what subsidised boxes you have had in the past (each subscriber is entitled to one subsidised box of each type - 1 and 2 TB boxes count as the same type) - price varies from £149 if you have not had a previous 1 or 2TB box to full retail price of £299. Prices can often be negotiated lower depending on what packages you are on.

    I used that very word...
I got the box for £49 and £160 off my subscription over the coming year. So you could argue that they gave me £110 to take the box. I did my best to be pleasant to them and it paid off very nicely. The girl on the other end of the phone was charming too.
And whilst I remember I got free installation too and the bloke who came to install it (not an overly challenging task) was delightful too. He even very nicely put on overshoes to protect our carpet. Sky really did make the whole process very pleasant

Sounds like you got a cracking deal , think I am going to take this approach with sky and try and get a deal on this box.It just goes to show that it depends who you get on the phone as some of the people who work at sky have no idea what deals the company are offering at the time.
Thanks to everyone who has posted on this thread it has been very helpful and informative.

When speaking with Sky always remember that internally the customer cancellations team is actually called customer retentions. They are not going to give services away for free but they are mandated based on past account performance to keep you almost no matter what. Almost. :* Jenny

Not a bad deal either. The 2tb box really is quite something. I've had mine for about 3 months now and still have 92% free. One of those for nothing is not to be sneezed at!

Sky now deny any offer is available and say there is no record of the Live Chat thread. I have raised a complaint.

    I should think so!
It shows the need to get everything in writing but they can't get away with that.

I am waiting for them to contact me. Can anyone say with authority whether Live Chat records are kept by Sky?

No word from Sky. It seems that advising them that I was not happy, would not let the matter rest, and want to make a complaint is not the same as making a complaint. Perhaps the old quil and ink might carry more weight.

I had an issue with my Sunday Times subscription and had to Live Chat with them. They offer to email a copy of the transcript at the end of the chat which is very handy.

However I always take a screen shot of my live chats as you never know when you may need them again!

I tried Live Chat again. The adviser referred to my original contact, apologised the order had not been processed and confirmed the new box has been authorised. Thank you Sky. Screen shot saved as a pdf.

If you click the envelope icon in the top left of the chat window and enter your email address a transcript of the live chat will be emailed to you.

I must look out for that. I can't believe the history is not recorded. Anyway hopefully the matter is resolved.

New Box delivered this morning. I am wondering if it has wifi onboard. Also thinking of keeping the old one connected so as to access an unwatched Season of Homeland.

    If it's a DRX890WL-Z yes, it has built-in Wi-Fi.
Think you can watch Homeland on the catch-up service if your subscription allows it.

Must search for that thanks. It's still in the box whilst I catch up on the gardening. It's a test of willpower and my will is giving up very soon.

Please confirm the size of that box. The sticker has that product code and the box says 500 gigs. As you know I was expecting and this thread is regarding the 2Tb.

That again shows the need to get everything in writing, but particularly as you pay for the full package they need to put it right.
