I tried copying a non copy protected NTSC disc to the hard drive yesterday using Line U dubbing and while the colour seemed to be fine the recording played back with the recording kinda like it was squashed to 2.50+:1 ratio with three of these slices on the screen. It wasn't rolling etc it was 3 distinct squashed versions of the output, one under the other.

Can NTSC material not be copied to the HDD or is there some other method other than Line U dubbing of doing this?

Keith,

No, I'm afraid the XS32 doesn't handle NTSC input. (It can play one, but can't record NTSC).

Have you tried copying from external DVD Player (via external port)

I might give that a try Jethro, I just figured that macrovision was a function of the player output rather then the disc(albeit non-copyprotected)

As pointed out above Toshiba recorders do not record NTSC.
Panasonic will record NTSC.
Pioneer and Philips will record both NTSC and PAL 60
