let us know how you get on and more importantly where you order from, cheers.

typical just as I start changing my gear to silver they go and bring out a black version... and fingers still crossed for an ABIT M-ATX Max board to fit inside it.

    regards - robocook

I remember this thread from a while ago and thought I'd just bump it to say I bought an ATC-600 from scan.co.uk (a.k.a. "SCAM"; ebuyer didn't have the DX1, unfortunately) and now it's all set up and running. :D

Celeron-T 1.2GHz (with low profile 60mm fan - soon to be undervolted and passively cooled)
    AOpen mATX mobo
    256MB PC133
    Seagate Barracuda ATA IV 80GB
IBM Deskstar 75GXP 30GB (suprised me... almost as quiet as the Seagate!)
    ATi All-In-Wonder 7500 + RF remote
    SB Audigy Platinum
Pioneer DVD 106s slot-loader (in silent mode)
    Custom silent 300W PSU
    Coolermaster ATC-600 DX1
    Wireless Keyboard with integrated mouse.

I didn't really want to part with the amount I spent on it and there were a few teething troubles (understandably), but now it's up and running I'm as pleased as a Frenchman who's just invented a pair of self-removing underpants. :D

After adjusting screen DPI (now 100DPI @ 848x480), geometry and aspect ratio, programming remote controls, testing stability with cooling setups for hours and pulling my hair out over which software to use for multimedia playback it is now working very well and is fairly "idiot proof". Good thing too - it'll need to be for when we all come back ****ed at 3am in the morning next year and have to figure out how to play porn. Actually, the cost (about 750 quid all up) isn't too bad when you consider that it will be a DVD player, CD player, mp3/Divx jukebox, TIVO, DSL server, network router/firewall and something to put your beer on all in one box. I was a little apprehensive about CD sound quality but overlooked the fact that the digital feed virtually goes straight from the DVD-ROM to the pre-power DAC stage so it's not too bad (about as good as can be expected with the amp). Certainly good enough for our needs.

At the moment I'm running 601 S3 fronts and an LCR600; thanks to David Vowles, who frequents this forum and was pleasure to do business with! The center is fairly overwhelming (cuts right through your spleen in fact, hehe) but of course the masterplan is to pair the '01s with floorstanders and a sub for full 5.1 (along with perhaps a better amp... STR-DB925 ain't quite up to it, methinks). In the meantime, I've been able to get reasonable imaging by taking the centre level down a notch and setting the fronts fairly far apart and substantially toed-in. This isn't the room this setup is ultimately intended for so I'll have to re-adjust things as I go along.

The case is LUSH and stacks really nicely with other AV gear (it ain't worth £200 though, lol). I'm thinking of putting a cold cathode inside to match the AC-3 bar on the amp, but for now I'm just happy to sit on my ass all day running the speakers in. :D  :D

    Regards,

    MuFu.

P.S. Great forum this... thanks for all the help so far. :)

Thanks. No... unfortunately the door doesn't shut with the Audigy Drive in - I had to elongate the mounting slots using a dremel, but it was quick and easy work. I guess it sits about 3-4mm further back than it should. It actually doesn't look too bad since the panel is vetically convex anyway (so the middle is level with the case faceplate) and the gaps around the edges aren't really noticeable when the case is closed and it's dark inside.

Yeah, the GX1 is the black version.

I was pretty tempted by it and almost ordered one from here for about £200. I went with the silver one though because ultimately I'll have a silver amp. The dark purple-smoked panel looks pretty groovy.

    Ooooh! :D

Actually - I was thinking of doing a similar thing; put a blue cold cathode inside to make the most of the gaps around the drive bays. Should look pretty sweet and match the blue LED strip on the amp.
