i started another thread about a new htpc and would thank all for their help.
i will be using a venice 3000 with cool n quiet, my question is how much of a saving is this, when just sitting idle is it using about the same power or less , if it uses 100 watts watching films will i still be using 100 watts if only downloading off the net or will it cut back to say 40 watts. has anyone measured the savings.i have a lcd tester and will post my results when system is built. my system will be going 24/7 so could be a big saving.
    cheers

My desktop Abit AN8/3800+ Athlon64 (venice core and Nvidia NF4 Ultra chipset) won't stay in hibernate or standby. Something keeps it coming out every few minutes.

I've tried turning all the resume on... on the bios options off and checked the network car configuration, resume on lan, etc.

The only way to get it ti hibernate is to pull the plus the moment it's done the soft power-off thing!

    Can't fault the performance though.

    cheers,
    Rob.

With cool n Quiet, if the CPU is not busy, it reduces its Mhz, which in turn, reduces its power consumpation.

was wondering how much it would save , does it reduce power by 50% so instead of 100watts it uses 50 watts when not a lot happening.

It looks to me like cool'n quiet didn't kick in in those tests, else it only saved 3 Watts?

Even without cool-n quiet, the Venice core was a clear winner even compared to a rather similar Newcastle core, let alone the Intel parts. That's what swung it for me.

    regards,
    Rob.
