Bad coincidence of events. Hot weekend, and I had been trying out my projector for size in the evening. I had the DVD player sitting on top of the sofa because I didn't have any leads that would reach otherwise.

When I came back to it in the afternoon, it had been sitting in the direct sunlight, and was nearly too hot to touch. Tried it last night, and while it turns off and on, the video circuits appear to be totally fried, and all I get is garbage on the screen. :(

Bah. Another expense, just when I didn't need it. I may have to resort to using the PS2 as a player for a while!!

My pc was running 30c hotter than normal this weekend and i wasnt playing games or doing anything which was cpu intensive, I was just surfing the web. I ended up switching it all off.

Sorry to hear of your miss fortune, was it an expensive player?

it was a Yammy 550, so not expensive, but not a throwaway, either.

It wasn't turned on or anything, just sitting there.

I suppose it's an excuse to upgrade :|

Is it worth claiming on your house insurance?

house insurance has an excess way over what I paid for it. I think I only paid £65 for it or something, so I guess it's a lesson I'll have to learn. Luckily the tv is on the other side of the room which doesn't get the sun so much.

Might try to find another one of these, possibly a 1500 if I can find one at a reasonable price. Might leave it a few weeks. Need expensive video leads for PJ, just bought a screen, etc. etc. All fun fun fun.

Second hand AE200, so no, not HD. Picture quality is very acceptable for me. But have to wait and see with screen, etc..

Off to look on eBay for a new player.

Lesson to self: learn to tell the difference between blue and green before you go off and order a new player. Shoots self in head.

On the plus side, I'm surprised that a box that got as hot as that is still working!
