assuming your DVD player doesnt do DIVX or MPEG then the only way is to do a realtime recording on to a blank disc on the computer....as in record in DVD-Video format......so it'll take as long as whatever it is you are trying to record (hopefully a legal mpeg of whatever it is)......most programs can do this, i would imagine Nero can....

ConvertXtoDVD and Ultra video joiner will convert various media files to dvd format. Try a google search and download the trial versions.

Try using VCD format. Power Producer can generate VCD format, but I haven't tried converting MPEG into VCD.

If its mpeg 1 and the resolution is correct its already vcd ready and you should be able to burn it as such straight to cd with nero.
If not, TMPGEnc. will process it to legal vcd ready format.
